Hello there,
I wonder if anyone can help?
I have a Nest router in my house, downstairs, and a nest wifi point upstairs, these work fine.
This year I put a summerhouse at the end of the garden and added a second router, which is connected via ethernet to the first router. The second router works fine. At the time I got the second router I also got a second wifi point, for the other room of the summerhouse. The issue is the second wifi point has a weak signal, or drops connection altogether, even if it is in the same room as the second router. The summerhouse is about 20m away from the first router.
I had assumed that the second wifi point would connect to the nearest router, but it seems, after looking online that the second point can only connect to the initial router in the house, the one connected to the modem.
Does anyone know if there is a way to force the second point to connect to the second router?
Or is that impossible?
Many thanks
Sye

That's impossible because mesh (802.11s) does not travel over ethernet.
What about getting one more Nest Wifi router? Then you could use wired backhaul for that one too. If not by ethernet cable only, maybe ethernet over coax (MoCA) or power cord / power line could make it easier?

Oh, you backhaul between with Nest wifi router? what port do you put the cable in and how do you configure the router as a point? do you then have the same wifi? and would it then be part of the mesh, or would any other access point still try to connect to the main router? asking because my access point is a bit too far from the router. was thinking of adding a point in between but if a router can be wider that would probably be better.
Thanks

You just set it up as any other Nest Wifi secondary unit.
About wired backhaul:
Add an unmanaged switch if you need more ports:
A diagram I've made:

Thanks for the replies, I will add another wired Router if needed for the second room. So far the wifi signal from the router in the other room does seem to reach.
It's a shame it works this way, rather disappointing.
I don't think they should use the term "Wifi Mesh" to describe it, "Mesh" suggests an interlinked set of points, it's more like a central hub, the router, with wifi points only working from that single central hub, or a wired switch attached to it. Thanks though!
