Vpn for work(windows based rras)

For work, I connect to onsite intranet via a windows based vpn remote access edge server.

I have been doing this for about 3 years. Recently, whenever power went out on site, I would be able unable to connect to that same vpn(800 tunnel failed error). The work around was I would have to factory reset my Google router then I’d be able to create that tunnel and connect to vpn.

however, more recently I completely unable to connect no matter what I do. What’s weird is I am able to connect on my MacBook via WiFi which I don’t normally use for work.

some background, I have an Ethernet cable running from my Google router to a trend net 8 port gigabyte switch and that’s how I would connect to vpn, using a desktop connect wired.

Now only my MacBook via WiFi can connect and not even my surface pro can connect via WiFi!

no one else on the team is having this issue so it’s point to fiber problems. Does anyone have any insight on this?? I’m desperate haha

Hey Jeff,

thank you for your suggestion! I finally got things going it turns out not to be related to Google fiber but with our vm running the vpn. I’ve since rebuilt the vpn from scratch and everything is working fine! Thank you so much for your help. I can close this issue

What modem do you have, and have you put it in bridge mode? Else you might have double NAT, which VPNs doesn't always like.

I don't work for Google.

You know what it is in nat mode! I can try and put it bridge mode. It's the new white circle google modem router. I had the old black one but they recently upgraded me.

I will try putting in bridge mode now

Hi Carlhiggins,

I just wanted to check in and see real fast to see putting the modem into bridge mode improved things for you or to see if you're still seeing issues. If you need more input, just let me know.

Thanks,

Jeff
