Google Home and Samsung Smartthings

Good morning,

For some time now, when I log into the SmartThings app, Google Home switches from Home to Away.

I have two Samsung WindFree air conditioners on SmartThings, and the app is connected to Google Home.

It doesn't happen every time I open the app, but I don't understand the connection.

Does anyone have any idea why?

Thanks for reaching out.

Google Home might be relying on too many "sensors" to decide if you are home. The cause usually lies in how Presence Sensing detects your location.

Could you check if any other members of your family are part of your home presence settings:

  • Open Google Home > Settings > Presence sensing.
  • Look at "Allow this home to use phone locations."
  • Ensure only your main phone is active.

Check the list of devices under "Other devices." If your AC units are listed as devices that help detect presence, turn them off. You only want your phone to handle this; otherwise, a status update from the AC could confuse the system.

Good evening, thanks for your reply. Google Home only supports location and Wi-Fi detection, while Samsung SmartThings only supports location detection. The air conditioners don't have presence detection. To avoid any issues, I should enable sensor detection on the Nest thermostat, but this would cause the out-of-home location feature to activate about an hour after Google Home detects the phone's location.
