Hi so i'm trying to create a script that will set my thermostat that "works with google" to a low temperature when Presence Sense detects no one at home.
while this is initially a simple issue and i even managed to make a basic script that does exactly that i run into issues because the thermostat i use only changes the temperature for 1 hour when controlled through google and so i wondering if there is a way to repeat the code every hour until Presence sense detects someone at home so the heating doesn't turn back on when no one is home

Thanks for reaching out. Have you tried Home/Away assist feature in your Nest app settings? When it's ON, Nest thermostat switches to Eco mode automatically when it detects no one is home, using sensors to sense presence and switching to a pre-defined lower temperature which you can set under Eco Temperatures in your Nest app.
