5 Google minis lost connection to wifi simuteneously while all other smart devices work fine

Hi,

I have 4 Google mini 1st Gen and a 2nd Gen Google mini nest. One week ago, all the google minis lost connection to the network simultaneously. I have over 20 other smart devices (switches, dishwasher, plugs etc.) which are working fine and respond to commands on my phone connected to the same wifi.

I have done factory resets on the units, but nothing. My wifi is set to 2.4 Ghz and 5 Ghz separate networks. Channel is set to Auto and bandwidth to 20 if that helps.

Thank you

Prashant

Hey this has happen to me too. I have had fiber to the premisise installed. Everything was fine and then the google minis started saying they were not set up. eventually they all did this (over the last week). I rebooted, reset and re connected. Everything checks out when looking at the device information. But then when trying to use it "hey google" it reverts to saying it is not setup. Tried everything. Sometimes get a response and all works fine, then back to not set up. So frustrating. Hope someone has had this and fixed it. Please advise us? Anyone else had this. Thanks in advance,

Hi F_Genius,

I'm sorry to hear about your problem! It's strange that all your Google Minis lost connection at the same time, especially since your other smart devices are working fine.

This may seem simple, but it can often fix temporary glitches:

  • Restart your router, modem, and each Google Mini.
  • Unplug them from the power for about 30 seconds, then plug them back in and wait for them to completely boot up.

Sometimes router firmware updates can cause compatibility issues with devices. Check your router manufacturer's website for available updates and install them if necessary or contact your ISP or router's manufacturer to help you out with check the information below:

  • Channel interference (channel congestion from too many devices, optimal channels for 2.4GHz is 1,6, or 11)
  • UPnP should be enabled.
  • AP Isolation disabled.
  • Make sure a VPN or Proxy Server is not configured on the network.
  • Confirm distance between router, setup device and Google Home are optimal.
  • MAC Filtering should not be enabled on the router.
  • Preferred DNS settings: 8.8.8.8 for the primary and 8.8.4.4 for the secondary.

You can also try checking all the relevant settings to see if there's anything that might be preventing your devices from functioning properly by using this article: My speaker or display is not connecting to Wi-Fi.

Let me know how it goes!

Ivan

Hi Ivan, Thanks for your reply.

Problems with Google Home Mini Speakers remaining connected, then saying they are not set up, when they are.

I have six Google mini speakers in my house. My network environment is new fibre to the premises.

Five of the minis are connected to an access point and one is connected to the main router modem.

All 6 speakers connect initially, but drop out after five minutes or less and then claim that they are not set up.

I have set them up again and again and done factory resets. They do install. but the same problem of dropping out and claiming they are not set up and asking for me to download the app to do so (happen every time).

I have noticed that when the speakers are non responsive and I go into Spotify and ask for a song to be played on one of the speakers. This process seems to bring the speaker (mini), back into service (as normal and all commands and lights and plugs will respond… For a short time, then back to saying it is not set up and go get the app. The system of lights and plugs etc. works from my cell phone (android).

I have done all the trouble shooting I can, but I can not work out what the tripping point is so I am dead in the water.

Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Regards John
