Apple Music Playlists

I’m having trouble with my own personally created Apple Music playlists playing on my nest mini speakers. I had this problem for about 3 weeks and I’ve tried every troubleshooting idea I could find on the internet (both from google and apple). I’ve also talked to both google and apple support with no one knowing what is going on. We’ll, just this past Thursday, I was able to say “hey google play my right now playlist on Apple Music” and it did play the Apple Music playlist I created called “right now”. I also tried several of my other playlists that I created to make sure it was working across the board and it was. However, it is now Sunday (2 days later) and I am again unable to play my created playlists…..anyone have any ideas?  Or tried other troubleshooting other than:

unlink and relink Apple music

factory reset devices

turn off WiFi and turn back on

Unplug speakers and plug in again

Hi Smallyskis,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that the speakers are not playing your personal playlist on Apple Music. Don't worry, I'm here to help.

Based on the information you shared with us, I need to ask a few questions for further assistance:

  • Does the issue happen just with Apple Music?
  • What happens when you request to play a specific song or artist?
  • Have you tried to rename the playlist?
  • Can you replicate the issue with another music app?

Also confirm that you are using a mobile device that has the same Google account that is currently linked to their Google Home.

To confirm that the account is linked:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Favorites or Devices.
  3. Tap the device card of the preferred speaker or display.
  4. At the top right, tap Settings, Recognition & sharing.
  5. Tap Linked account(s), and then you will see the Google Account(s) linked to this speaker or display.

If the issue persists, please confirm the default music provider is set up correctly in the Google Home app.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. In the upper right corner of the Home screen, tap Account.
  3. Make sure that the Google Account listed is the one linked to your device. To switch accounts, select the alternate email address, if available.
  4. Tap Settings, Services, Music
  5. To choose your default service, tap the linked music service, then tap the radio button to the right of the service.

Please keep me posted. I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Kevin

Hello Kevin,

it would be great if you could help.

1) my Apple Music account is linked correctly. I have checked multiple times. It is linked exactly like it was a month ago when I was not having these issues.

2) yes, the linked accounts on my home for  all of my devices are all the same email as my Apple Music.

I do not use any other music service, so I would not be able to verify if it is just Apple Music or not. The only music streaming service I listen to or have playlists on is Apple Music. When I request a specific song I have no issues. When I request a certain artist I have no issues. Most of the time when I request a certain album I have no issues (lately I am having trouble with one album, but I think it’s because the album is also the name of a single. Even when I say the EXACT album name and artist it only plays the single). I cannot get my own created playlists to play. It will either play me what it guesses I am asking for or will get me an album that’s has the name of the playlist I am requesting. I have tried to change my playlists names and that has not helped either.

Hi Smallyskis,

Thank you for your response. I'm sorry to hear that the situation persists. Let's work together for a solution.

Based on the information you shared with us, it seems like you're running into some specific situation with Apple Music on your device. Since you have already taken all the steps to try to solve the problem on our end and all the other functions are working on the Nest Mini Speakers, I suggest contacting Apple Music support to obtain the most accurate and timely advice.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Kevin

That’s a typical copout answer passing the problem to the other company! I expected more from Google community. I have the same problem. Works fine with Spotify. But won’t call the playlist I have on the speaker. Doesn’t even often make sense what it plays. Alexa works fine. I’m going to have to scrap Google speakers for Alexa or apple. And that’s a shame as I have a few. Waste of time and money trying to solve this .
interesting that it used to work though as I’ve only just made the decision to move from Spotify to Apple Music.
best

I have the same issue.  I did everything on your list.  I also made the same request away on my Samsung phone, and it played correctly.  I the same request on iOS devices, and they played correctly.  I also made the request to play from my collections on Pandora, and Nest tells me that the collection is either not there or unavailable.  I've narrowed it down to Nest being the problem.  Not Apple account nor Pandora account since it worked on other devices.  My problem with Nest started almost a month ago.  At first,  it was an inconvenience because it would randomly happens then it would go away.  Now, it doesn't work at all.

Ok!  I am really glad I’m not the only one having the issue. After trying for 2 weeks to get google customer service to recognize the issue seems to be on their end I am really happy to know it’s not just me!

I am actively trying to work with google customer service to see if they can figure out their issue. I am sending them videos and screenshots as they have requested so hopefully they get a better idea of what my issue is!

I agree, my issue with my best speakers started about a month ago and it was spotty but now it completely does not work!

I will keep this thread updated if I can get answers or the issue resolved with google!

Thank you both for your replies!  I know it doesn’t help me fix my issue, but it does help to know it’s not just me!

I did reach out to Apple customer service and they worked on troubleshooting with me, however everything we tried, did not work. I agree that this really points to a google nest speaker issue!

Hopefully soon I can have some good news for everyone!  This has been about three weeks of interacting with google customer service for them to tell me the same things over and over. Just yesterday they requested videos of what the problem is so I really do hope I can get some answers.

I was going to buy another speaker for Black Friday, but no WAY am I buying one now knowing this issue is happening and really nothing has been done so far to fix the issue except send me the same 20 troubleshooting steps each time.

Ongoing Issue: Google Nest Hub Not Playing Apple Music Playlists

I’m reaching out because I too have been experiencing a persistent issue with my Google Nest Hub and connected speakers not playing my Apple Music playlists, despite following all troubleshooting steps. This issue has been incredibly frustrating, and I’m hoping you can help me resolve it.

Here’s the problem:

• When I ask Google Assistant to play a specific Apple Music playlist, it either plays the wrong playlist, defaults to another music service, or states that it can’t find the playlist.

• My Apple Music account is linked correctly in the Google Home app, and I’ve verified that it’s set as the default music service.

Here’s what I’ve already tried:

1. Re-linking my Apple Music account in the Google Home app.

2. Restarting and factory resetting my Google Nest Hub and speakers.

3. Checking my playlist names to ensure there are no conflicts.

4. Testing playback through casting from the Apple Music app, which works, but voice commands do not.

5. Clearing Assistant activity to reset commands and retrain voice recognition.

6. Confirming all devices and apps are updated to the latest versions.

Despite all of these steps, the problem persists and has significantly impacted my experience with both platforms.

I’ve spoken to the lead Apple tech support and despite additional trouble shooting she wasn’t able to help me. She believes it’s a Google nest hub issue and not with Apple Music.

Can you please investigate this issue or provide additional guidance on how to fix it? I’ve invested a lot of time trying to resolve this, and I’m frustrated that it’s still ongoing. If needed, I’m happy to provide logs or other diagnostic information to help troubleshoot further.

Thank you for your attention to this matter. I’m looking forward to your assistance in resolving this.

Anyone had any further news?

the options for me now are to just revert reluctantly back to Spotify or use different speakers than the Google speakers.
on principle, I don’t like being blackmailed back to Spotify, but I want music that works….

cheers

Hi everyone!

I am now able to request my Apple playlists from my google nest mini speakers. I just randomly tried it this week and it is working again!

I have tried every day this week and it has worked and I’ve tried multiple playlists and it has worked!  I didn’t do anything to get it working, I just tried it this week and it was working.

Im hoping if you all try it will be working for you too!  If not let me know and I will keep working with customer service.

I really hope it works for all of you now too!

I tried it over Christmas, and it's working consistently 90% of the time. I will chalk the 10% up to unclear instruction on my part.

Let's hope it stays this way.  Thanks all.
