Audio Question: Google Nest Hub 2nd gen

For the longest time, when we asked google a question (what’s the weather, the time, etc), audio came out from the display. When we asked it to play music, music automatically played to the attached Bluetooth speaker in our bathroom. We didn’t need to change the audio speaker over - it did it automatically.

Suddenly, all audio comes out from the bathroom speaker for everything - not just music. Whatever I have the audio/music speaker set at, that’s where all audio comes from. Now I need to set the display as the audio and switch it over on the app to play music on my bathroom speaker each time. It was never like this.

Just did a factory reset and nothing is solved. All audio comes from whatever speaker is the audio/music speaker.

Is this a glitch? Is there a way to set up where music is played from Bluetooth speaker and all other audio comes from display automatically or I have to always change the speaker before playing music?

Hi Jem5678,

I know how it feels when something isn’t working the way it should. Let’s further look into it.

Try to do these troubleshooting steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap Devices.
  3. Tap your Google Nest Hub 2nd gen tile.
  4. Tap Settings > Audio.
  5. Select Default music speaker to choose which speaker to use for music.

Let me know if this works for you.

Alex

Hi there,

Apologies for the late revert. All media playback should play on the external speaker that’s paired with your Google Nest Hub 2nd gen device. Alarms, timers, and Google Assistant responses will still play on Google Nest Hub 2nd gen. Strange how all audio goes to the bathroom speaker, but let’s try to do some troubleshooting steps.

Best,
Alex

I did all the steps.

I set the audio for bathroom speaker in the settings but once again, ALL audio comes from the bathroom speaker (not just music).

Hello Jem5678,

Thanks for trying. Kindly provide the following information:

  • Swipe up from the bottom of your display > Settings > Device information. Look for the System firmware version.
  • Open the Google Home app > Settings > Scroll down to Support > Customer support code/App info. Get the app version.

Warmly,
Alex

So when I do this, I picked Bathroom speaker because that is where I want my music to play. But when I ask Google what time it is, what’s the weather, etc., the audio does not come from the hobbit so it’s still comes out from the bathroom speaker. So what I’m trying to do is have only music play on the bathroom speaker but all other audio come out of the hub. Is that even possible? Whatever speaker you have picked does all audio whether it’s music or not come out of that speaker?
