Broadcast Suddenly Not Working at All

buddha673
Community Member

Broadcast is not working from any of my home devices or from my phone. I'll say broadcast, it will ask for the message, I'll speak the message and it will then say it doesn't understand, saying "to broadcast on your home devices just tell me the message" and no matter what I say it keeps doing this. On the hub unit it, it will then display "broadcast message" as an option of things it can do but when I select it it still says it doesn't understand. All devices are on the same wifi. Everything seems normal. Very strange.

Hey everyone,

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It seems like we've been seeing an increase in reports about broadcasting issues on the Google Home and Nest devices. I'd like to dig deeper into this.

  • What country are you located in?
  • Does the same issue happen when you broadcast using the Google Assistant app on your phone?
  • What is the firmware version of your devices?

For the team to investigate further, please send feedback on your devices by saying, "Hey Google, send feedback," followed by the keywords: "Broadcast not working." Make sure to replicate the issue first before sending feedback, and turn on device usage and crash reports by following the steps on this link.

Let me know once done.

Cheers,

Muddi

We are having exactly the same problem, it's driving us insane! It's been happening for a couple of days now.

It's just me. My wife can still broadcast. I tried retraining my assistant to recognize my voice and still nothing. It does recognize me because I ask it my name and it knows it's me.

Same problem here also. Irritates me that I can't even broadcast. Tried to talk with my kiddos and all of a sudden this problem occurred. Are we suppose to pay for a product that halfway works. IDTS

For the record (and engineers)  I'm in the UK and set to UK English. Also I'm using my google home, not a  mobile phone.

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

I think I have figured out a workaround.
Rather than issuing the command "Broadcast" and waiting for the response "what's the message" try this instead.
Issue the command broadcast and immediately speak your message. Like this:

"OK Google Broadcast, Children come down for dinner"

Do not wait for google to ask for the message. This seems to work for me.

Good luck fellow citizens of the world 😄

Tried this and it appears to work although you do have to time a rest between the broadcast command and what you want to broadcast.

Exactly the same for me.

Hi @Muddi, are you working on this further or we just have to send feedback. Should we wait for your response?
Country: Singapore
Firmware: 356012

Broadcast functions are broken across android and my home hubs. I have 3 hubs and 2 hub max. Also broken trying to broadcast from a pixel 7 pro either in or off my home network. I'm in Los Angeles..

Exactly same issue and timeframe here as well.

Encountering this problem from last 3-4 days now in Singapore. My brother in another country can broadcast to my home speaker but me and my wife can't. When I ask Google Home to broadcast, it asks me for message but then stay silent after listening, similar behavior on iOS and Android App. Contacted Google Support, but they seem unaware of any serious outage. If anyone able to resolve the issue, then please share here.

Location: Singapore
Firmware: 356012

Same issue happening here in the UK. About 3-4 days now of not being able to call the kids downstairs.... My throat hurts from shouting now!!

My family have lots of nest minis and we broadcast between them. Suddenly however broadcast has stopped working and it's google assistance at fault.  Conversation goes like thus:

Me - hey google, broadcast

Speaker - what's the message

Me - everyone come for dinner

Speaker - something like "you need to tell me the message"

Me - I repeat "everyone come for dinner"

Speaker - sorry I don't understand

Everything use to work, now it doesnt ands frustrating. Doesn't work from the hub, any speaker or Android phone on same network.

What's the deal?

I've been having exactly the same problem for one day now. Very frustrating.

+1 here - I also cannot ask even simple questions that the speakers previously did easily without a response of "I don't understand" for everything. But the broadcast being broken is a deal breaker for us - if Google doesn't fix or acknowledge soon I will have to switch ecosystems.

I'm getting the same thing when trying to broadcast. I get:
"to broadcast on your home devices, just tell me the message".... "I'm sorry I don't understand"

I found a post saying it's a bug and you could change your language to another English (e.g. English US or English Canada) I did this and it worked for about a day. It seems to be something to do with my user, as other family member are fine.

Mine is default to these and no luck with this.

I even deleted my entire home set up and re-set it up with completely factory resetting my google home and minis and still can't broadcast. Leads me to believe its something on googles end that broke.

I wonder.... are we all using the older google home? the one that looks like an air freshener? I noticed mine trying to update it self a few days ago.

Mine is an older one also. I wonder if they're becoming outdated? 🤔

This is exactly what mine is doing. You need to tell me the message.

Even trying on phone doesn't work its just refusing to broadcast.

Issue started on Thursday afternoon the 6th of July and we are in Canada 🇨🇦

None of my Home devices are broadcasting. Was working 3 days ago. No changes to wi-fi or devices setup. When I say "Okay, Google. Broadcast." I can get my Nest speakers to initialize and ask "What's the message?" But when I speak my message, it says "To broadcast on your home devices just tell me the message." When I speak my message again, it says "Sorry, I don't understand" and stops listening.

We have 6 speaks/hubs throughout the house. They are all doing this. My phone's Google Assistant is also failing. I've tried rebooting devices, unplugging and plugging back in, but no change. Any ideas?

Same here.

@MCWaltersand @William729

I've seen a couple of other posts like this in the lasts couple of days. Broadcast is still working for us in Minnesota in the USA. The customer in one of the other posts said they were in APAC. I wonder whether this is happening only in certain countries or regions.

Broadcast stopped working in my house several days ago. From either one of our five home devices and even from my cell phone.

I am in the US in Southern Missouri.

I have the same issue started a couple of days ago.

When I say, "Hey, Google, Broadcast."

It says, to broadcast on your Home devices just say the message.

When I give the message, the Nest says, "Sorry I didn't understand."

Now I get the same message no matter what I do. Example:

"Hey Google, Stop"

G: "I don't understand"
