Bug report - Google Assistant speech stops abruptly while telling the time after telling a joke

JosephM
Community Member

Issue

When I ask Google for the time after telling a joke, the voice stops before the response is complete.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Ask Google to "tell me a joke" or "tell me a fact"
  2. At any time during Google's response, ask Google "what time is it?"
  3. Google Assistant's response is cut off immediately after responding with "It's..."

Notes

Issue appears to be reproducible on Nest hub 1st and 2nd generation devices. Issue has been on-going for at least 1 year.

Hi @JosephM

Can you let us know your region and language settings? What is the device firmware version?

Some steps to try if you haven't already:

Delete and reinstall the Google Home app. Update to the latest version.

Move your devices closer to your router. Reboot all devices and router.

Be sure to use the wires that were original to your devices.

If none of that helps and you still get that response during the interruption of the reply please send feedback immediately after. You can do this in the Google Home app and check enable all logs.

Hi @JillG,

Sure thing,

RegionUSA
Languageen-US
Firmware324896

I've rebooted the device, reinstalled my Home app, using original cables on both devices, and it still seems to be happening. This is happening on both my Nest Hub devices gen 1 & 2. I've checked the Google Home app and couldn't find the enable all logs option.

Thanks,

Joe

Hello everyone,

@JillG, I appreciate your assistance.

Thanks for posting and I'm sorry for this experience, @JosephM. You can try changing the Assistant language that you are using to see if that will solve the issue. If not, factory reset and setup your Google Nest Hub devices.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,
Lovely

@LovelyM Thank you for the suggestion. I'm afraid I'm unable to change the language of the Assistant since I only speak English. A factory reset and setup did not resolve the issue.

Has anyone been able to reproduce the issue on their end?

Hi JosephM,

Thanks for the update and for trying out the suggested steps. You can change the Assistant language to either English US, English CA or English UK. Please confirm to me if the issue remains even with a different language.

Cheers,
Lovely

Thank you LovelyM,

I've tried various English variants and confirmed that the issues occurs when using the following languages:

  • English (United States)
  • English (Canada)

The issue is not present when using an English language with a non-American accent, some of the languages I tested were:

  • English (Australia)
  • English (Belgium)
  • English (India)
  • English (Ireland)
  • English (Nigeria)
  • English (Philippines)
  • English (Switzerland)
  • English (United Kingdom)

Hey JosephM,

Many thanks for checking this with multiple Assistant languages. We'll take a closer look at this. It would be very helpful for us if you could send feedback using your Google Nest Hub after replicating the issue in both English (USA) and English (Canada).

Kind regards,
Lovely
