Can the speakers announce my reminders?

NFormis

Can I just ask my Nest Mini "Remind me tomorrow at 9 to wash clothes", for example, and get an audible/spoke reminder at the time?

When I try to do it I receive just a notification on my phone. Not very useful if I need to be reminded of something.

This worked flawlessly on my Alexa, but I'm trying to migrate to Google.

Thank you.

Hi there,

Reminders on Google assistant will notify you you but then you will need to request to hear them. This Google design works better for me in a family home as it will only annouce private information to a voiced matched request.

You can find more information about this from the link below.

That's the thing, it doesn't notify me at all via sound. Only via notification on my phone.

All the notifications on the Home app settings are enabled. Personal results and Voice Match too.

Hi again,

What Nest devices do you own?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for posting.

@Cathal_S, I appreciate your help on helping out @NFormis

@NFormis, If you set up a time-based reminder for yourself on a speaker or display, it will play a sound at the scheduled time, and Google Assistant will announce that you have a reminder. It will also show you a visual signal:

  • On a speaker, the lights will pulse, then a single white light will stay on for 10 minutes.
  • On a display, the screen will dim.

To check the reminder, say “Hey Google, what’s my reminder?”

Let us know if you still have questions by responding to this thread.

Best,

Princess

@Princesss thanks for the inputs, but as I've said in the previous comment, absolutely nothing happens on my speaker when the scheduled time arrives, no announcements. I only receive a notification on my phone.

It goes like this:

  1. I ask "remind me tomorrow at 9 to take out the trash" for example
  2. The above schedule time arrives
  3. I receive a notification on my phone
  4. Absolutely nothing happens on my speaker

All the notifications on the Home app settings are enabled. Personal results and Voice Match too. Also, my speaker is not on 'do not disturb' mode.

Hi NFormis,

Thanks for the additional info.

By any chance, have already tried to perform a complete reset to your Google Nest Mini? Let's go ahead and try that to see if it will fix.

Best,

Princess

@Princesss , I successfully performed a complete reset on the Nest according to the article provided. Following this, I reconfigured it on the Home app.

Still, the exact same behavior as before. I asked it to remind me in ten minutes to take ou the trash, and when the scheduled time arrived I only received a notification on my phone, and the speaker was silent.

I would like to add that when I ask to set a reminder the speaker replies "Ok, I will send a notification to you with the reminder on 3:15pm" - implicating that only a notification will be sent and nothing will be announced. I don't know if this info helps. Since it only ever answered me this way, I don't know if there is any other answer.

Hi - how can I get my google nest mini (2nd gen) to read out the reminder ? rather than saying I have a reminder and making me follow it up ?

Hey folks,

While announcing the reminder isn't supported, a single solid white light on your Google Nest Mini will flash for ten minutes means that you have a Reminder. To hear your reminder, you'll need to ask "Ok Google what's my reminder?". We're always looking for ways to improve and we'll take it as feedback.

We love to hear your feedback, send yours here. Also, I'll go ahead and lock this thread in 24 hours. Feel free to start a new thread if you need assistance with your Google speakers and we'd be glad to assist you further.

Kind regards,

Alex

Unfortunately there was no solution to my problem. The only thing that worked was changing the language of the device to EN-US (and thus changing the language that the Nest accepts), but that's not a solution nor an option in practice.
