Cannot link Nest Hub to Google Home. System says device is still linked to another account or home

I did a factory reset on my Google Nest Hub after I replaced my router. Google Home identifies the device but it will not allow me to complete the Device -->Google Home App linking process. It shows an error that the device is still linked to another account or home and that this device needs to be removed from that account before I can link it.  The device is essentially bricked at this point.

Hey @SFrangopoulos, sorry, but you didn't need to do any of that with the install of a new router. All you need do is go to the specific device in the Home app, choose the gear in the upper right, then device info, and then under WiFi "forget device." The home app will growl, but it'll give you a chance to establish the connection with the new router, password and WiFi SSID, etc. Once you do that, you should be all set.

Be sure to follow steps for setting up iDevices, as it requires Bluetooth to be on and location services, etc.

I'll take that into account for future reference but my Google Nest Hub is still  bricked. Its connected to the wifi network and it is visible in the google home app but it will not allow me to link it to my "home" leaving the device unusable (The device sits on a screen that lets me know its connected to the network). Everytime I attempt to link it to my home it says that it is still linked to another account which needs to be disconnected before it can link. I see no evidence of it actually being linked to another account since it has always been on my account from the beginning.

I also factory reset another google idevice in a separate room but that device was able to connect and link to my google home seamlessly.

Also, since the device is not linked to my home account the setup/gear icon does not give me the ability to "forget device". That option does exist for my other device which is linked and in my "home".

Is there anyone else in the house that might have a connection to the device on a different profile, say significant other, kids, some friend who visited? Do you have multiple accounts on your handheld and perhaps it's linked to one of those on the device?

Hi. Was just wondering if you managed to resolve this. I’m having the same problem. Im awaiting on Google getting back to me. Until then, I have the same problem, connected to my Wi-Fi but displaying the same message “this hub max is connected to another account or home”.

I have the same issue. Originally set my nest hub max up at my office on a separate protected account to prevent anyone from accessing my personal network through it. Since then, that other network and account aren’t accessible so I have a nest hub max that says “unable to connect because it is connected to another account.” That account is unreachable and so am I SOL? Or is there a way to have the hub max and unlink it without the “permission” of the account it was previously on? Seems like a rough feature in situations like this.

Hey, take a peek at my reply from ‎02-15-2022. "I was able to get it added to my new home by A) uninstalling Google Home app B) going to my Google Account Settings > Third Party Apps and revoking my Google Nest Hub Max from my account and C) factory resetting my Nest Hub Max. I then installed Google Home and it had deleted the new home I had created and I need to recreate it from scratch. Then I was able to add all my minis, then last I turn on the Nest Hub Max and added it to my home. It was added to the home, no issues."

Hey so I essentially just unplugged the device and assumed it wouldn’t be of use anymore but after a few weeks we plugged it back in and it was able to connect. I didn’t do anything special I walked into the room and just noticed that it was connected and working. I know that’s not much help but there is hope lol

I am experiencing this now too. I spent an hour on chat with a Google rep and no luck getting it to connect to my home... I will try unplugging it and see if it resolves in a few days or week?

I was able to get it added to my new home by A) uninstalling Google Home app B) going to my Google Account Settings > Third Party Apps and revoking my Google Nest Hub Max from my account and C) factory resetting my Nest Hub Max.
