Casting to multiple devices no longer working

kevink73

There was a recent update to the Google Home App, after which, I've lost the ability to cast to multiple devices (I have a WiFi Point, a Nest Mini and a Nest Audio Speaker that I've been using successfully with my audio apps for over a year).  This latest update has caused casting to more than one of these to not work.  In fact, the Home app now doesn't even want to acknowledge that the WiFi point is a speaker - I have to go through multiple steps now to get to the speaker function of that device in the Home app, and the WiFi point will make the quick Google beep as if it's connecting, but no audio will play.  Anyone else having the same issues, or know of a solution?

Hey kevink73,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

I know how challenging it is when something is not working on the Google Home app. Let's dig deeper into this.

  • What is the current firmware version of the Google Home app on your phone?
  • Does the same thing happen when you use a different phone/tablet?
  • Are you able to play music on your speakers via voice command?
  • Are you able to cast from cast-enabled apps like YouTube Music to your speaker?

Let's try these steps below:

  1. Move your Google Nest device within 15-20 ft. away from the router to get enough signal from your network.
  2. Reboot your Google Nest device and router by disconnecting them from the power source and leave them unplugged for 1 minute. Once done, plug them back one at a time with intervals.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi

I don't think is the solution since the problem was the Google software update.  Now the media button doesn't exist where you can tell it to play on  different speakers

Hey brianotter,

You can still move the music or play it to different speakers by accessing the media player on the Google Home app. If the player isn't showing in the Home app, please switch to the app that's casting media to the cast device.

Muddi

The media button is gone, It is surprising how a "specialist" doesn't know this! The answers offered are completely useless.

Hey folks,

Please note that the media button is not available on the Google Home app anymore. If you want to move the music or play it to different speakers, you have to access the media player on the Google Home app. If the player isn't showing in the Home app, please switch to the app that's casting media to the cast device.

We know that this is not the best answer that you're looking for. I suggest that you send a feedback on the Google Home app by following the steps on this link.

Let us know if you have additional questions or concerns about the Google Home app; otherwise, I'll lock the thread after 24 hours.
