Changing volume of speaker group

Speaker groups are utter garbage. I use Spotify as my music service. I have 3 Google devices organized into 2 speaker groups (in parentheses):

  1. Google Home Mini in living room (Living Room Speakers + Home Speakers)
  2. Google Home Max in living room (Living Room Speakers + Home Speakers)
  3. Google Nest Mini in bedroom (Home Speakers)

I have configured my Google Home Max and Google Home Mini to respond to commands (such as playing music) from my Living Room Speakers speaker group by default.

About once a month I have to factory reset my Google Home Max because it randomly stops playing music as part of the Living Room Speakers group.

Changing the volume is also messed up. I'm aware that due to a botched lawsuit against Sonos, we can no longer change the volume of speaker groups. Instead you have to change the volume of each speaker individually which is incredibly impractical. But if I change the volume from Spotify, it successfully changes the volume for all devices? Is this a loophole?

Speaker groups are the sole reason I purchased Google speakers. But they suck now.
