Chromecast built-in AV receiver not connecting to Home app

DCubed72

I bought a Sony AV receiver with Chromecast built-in (model STR-DN1080) a few years ago and it has been working great for the most part.  But if my internet ever goes down I have to manually reconnect it to Google Home. Lately, Google Home will not recognize it, so I can't add it to my home or any speaker groups.  So now if I want to listen to music throughout the whole house I can't use my top of the line speaker system, only the **bleep**ty mini speakers.  I can cast directly to it from other cast enabled apps, like Spotify and Stitcher, it just didn't show up in the Home app, so I can't add it to speaker groups.  I've tried resetting it many times and that used to fix it, but now it doesn't help. How can I get my AV receiver back into Google Home app?

Hello

Try adding the amplifier in the Home app again.  It may be that the problem is with Deezer rather than the google nest. I have a similar problem with Spotify where sometimes it cant 'see' the amp on the network, but after closing Spotify and re-opening it I can cast.

Re-bonjour,

On the amplifier screen does it say "casting" when you ask the nest to play something?

Oui mais cela ne joue rien.

Can you still cast from other devices?

Oui du coup j'ai essayé de changer de service de cast en passant de Deezer a Youtube music et cela remarche. Le problème vient donc de Deezer. Je vais les contacter. Merci pour votre aide.

My google home won't even find my DN1070 receiver. This is why it's such a shame that the chromecast audio was discontinued, because I think the chromecast built in devices only work for the few years the manufacturer can be bothered updating them. I'm not going to replace my otherwise-perfectly-fine-receiver just because the chromecast no longer works.

Hi, I have had similar issues with my dn1080 and for a while I couldn't connect to spotify either. In my case I found (in the chromecast case ) that my receiver had disappeared from the Home group. Sometimes this was because my receiver hadn't connected to the network, in which case it was greyed out and in other cases it was missing in the home app.

I am assuming that the receiver has connected to the network? in which case try setting it up again in Google Home.  Be patient because it took me about 5 attempts to get it to reconnect.

Since the last Google Home update I've been having problems with my Pioneer VSX-S520D AVR with Chromecast built in. (Latest firmware version from 2021 / Chromecast updated 2019 to 1. 36145856)

This is happening with both the Public Preview of the new Google Home app and the original version.

The Chromecast is reluctant to connect and if/when it shows it appears to be missing from the Speaker groups and the Room /Placement lists too. I can cast to it on an individual basis.

I was wondering if anyone was experiencing anything similar....?

It may make me more likely to get a Wiim Pro when it's available and link it to the AVR as this now has Chromecast support and looks like it gives a lot of extra options.

A slightly different problem with my Pioneer VSX-S520D AVR with Chromecast built in.

It has a fixed IP address on a solid mesh home network. Latest firmware installed issued by Pioneer in 2021 - & Chromecast version updated to 1.36.145856 in November 2019.

I signed up to use the Public Preview version of the new Google Home app about 3 weeks ago and has started to partly lose connection to the AVR for the last 10 days.

It still connects and appears on my device list and I can use it on an individual basis but it has disappeared from my device groups but it is still registered to a particular room on the app. When I try to add it to groups it's missing from the options available.

When I try to use the gear wheel menu and then tap on the "device information" the app either restarts or crashes. Therefore without access to the menu I am unable to adjust settings with regards to adding to speaker groups and placement/room settings. I also cannot remove the device from the Home app.

Might setting up the Devices in "another" home on the Home app work?

I have since removed the App from the Public Preview program but the problem persists.

Any ideas?

Having the same issue with Pioneer.

I deleted my home and it did not show up.

However, when I added a Nest Speaker it prompted me to add all chromecast speakers but it showed my Pioneer VSX-1131 Chromecast as incompatible.

I woke up this morning and my Pioneer AVR was available to be added to my GHome and thus speaker groups 🙌

Hey everyone,

Sorry to hear that you're having issues setting up or seeing your devices with Chromecast built-in to the Google Home app. Please note that we have limited support on third-party devices like Sony and Pioneer. Since all basic steps have been exhausted I suggest reaching out to their support team for better assistance.

@la-147714: Thanks for updating the thread. I'm happy to hear that your Pioneer AVR is now showing on the Google Home app.

Cheers,

Muddi

There is a possibility that the version of chrome cast on the amplifier is an old version that is not compatible with the new nest version.

The Pioneer AVRs are (probably) all running Chromecast 1.36.145856 which is certainly an old version. My VSX-S520D casting has been rock solid for the last three years but has very recently been problematic. The new version of Google Home that is slowly being rolled out is more likely to be the cause  here as it may have problems with old versions of Chromecast built in. With any luck Voxx/Sharp(the new owners of the brand) will give Pioneer/Onkyo products some attention again - eg. they recently updated all the mobile apps etc

Either way, my VSX-S520D is working OK but is just not showing up in various menus etc of the Home app. It will play as part of a speaker group previouly set up,  but no longer shows in  some of the room/placement settings. I'm hoping it's just a minor bug in the new Google Home roll out.
