Facial and voice recognition

Hi, I am setting this device up for my 100 year old mother in law. I was hoping that facial and voice recognition would eliminate her having to say Hey Google to make a call, but it doesn’t seem to work. Is it possible to make calls just saying “call John” with this feature or did I set it up wrong? any help is appreciated.
