Hello, I'm writing today because I'm super frustrated with Google removing features, but only doing a partial job of it. So, the Family Bell feature was supposed to be discontinued in February of 2024, but yet, my devices still ring multiple bells every day. I use them for my children to keep on schedule. This wouldn't be an issue now, except their schedule is changing, and I would like to be able to stop them from ringing altogether. In my home, I have a Google Nest Hub, and 2 Nest minis, as well as a Nest Audio, which I have not yet set up. I use the Google Home app with an iphone. When I try to go into Family Bell settings, it shows up as blank. I have power cycled all my devices, including the phone, and it still shows up as blank. It's still an option, but there is nothing inside it. However, my bells still ring at their scheduled times on the scheduled devices, and Google Assistant will still let me create family bells! I tried that this morning, and it created one, and rang! What the heck!!! Why would you discontinue a feature, but not actually discontinue its capabilities? I have googled all over to try and find an answer to my question, and/or a fix or workaround, and I have found no answer that works. I have tried turning on notifications so that my assistant will tell me about events that go on in the home, and it does not show anything when the bells ring. I'm at the point where I'm wondering if I have to literally delete and recreate my home under a different name, but I'm not even sure if that will fix it. Please help!!! You would think when a company discontinues a feature, that things created with that feature would just stop working as well. I'm still unsure why Family Bell was discontinued in the first place, as it was one of the coolest features for smart speakers, especially for children.

The issue with the inability to remove the Family Bell from the app should now be resolved. Please update to iOS Google Home app version 3.19
Thanks all!

Other customers are also reporting that they cannot delete any of their Family Bells because the Family Bells feature has been disabled without any provision for removing existing Family Bells. So far, there has been no response from Google Nest on any of these threads:

I'm having the same issue and it's extremely frustrating. I have several Family Bells that I can't disable. They still go off every day, but when you ask it to disable them, it says Family Bell has been discontinued.
It looks like automations can replace Family Bell. You can just automate an announcement. I even checked there if they converted the family bells into automations, but no luck.
Come on Google, it's not that hard...

I found a solution: Install an Android Emulator
I installed BlueStacks.
Then once you have the emulator running and you're logged into with your Google account, you'll need to install the Google Assistant App, which required the Google App to also be installed.
Find the Settings for the Assistant App (It's a little weird and not the same every time.)
Once you're in settings find "Google Assistant" and click that.
Then you can scroll down and find Family Bell.
My Bells showed up and I was able to delete them (or edit if you want).

That's a great workaround, but I'm not sure it would be feasible for me. I'm totally blind, and dependent on IOS's sçreenreader Voiceover to work with my phone. That means, any app I use, also has to work with Voiceover because I don't have the luxury of sight and I'm at the behest of my screenreader, but that's an awesome solution. I also found a solution, but it's far less agreeable than the one you posted. I deleted and recreated my home, and then spent way too much time figuring out how automations work. If Google had been smart, they would have allowed users of Family Bell to import them as automations, especially for IOS users. They also would have discontinued the feature completely, i.e.: making the bells stop ringing completely, because I would have adapted a hell of a lot sooner if I had been forced to do so! You see, I don't have any smart home devices other than my Google devices, so up until now, I haven't really needed to explore all the automations because Family Bell was smarter and more convenient!
Anyway, a final pro-tip about replacing bells with automations: use the "work day" routine, and just modify the times and actions as necessary. Plus, then your bells are all in one place, easy to turn on and off, and not mired deep within assistant settings, as you can have the routine as a favourite in the "favourites" tab on the bottom left of the Google Home app. Don't do what I did, and create individual automations for each family bell I was replacing, before I realized I could modify the existing "work day" routine. You'll waste far less time that way, LOL.
Thanks for the help. I might just try the emulator for giggles, and just to see how my screenreader handles it.

Oh, I didn't realize Bluestacks was an emulator for PC. That makes it even less likely that it will work with a screenreader, LOL. Screenreaders can be so finiky with emulators. I use Dolphin on my PC to play Gamecube games, Visual Boy Advance for Gameboy games, Fusion for Sega, and I used to use ZSNES, but that one is a real pain. I've never tried emulating a different OS, especially one for a completely different medium, but I still might try it, just to see how my screenreader handles it.

Is the Family Bell feature still being discontinued? Should we be using this fix to remove them or can we continue to use them?

This was the fix to allow you to remove the old Family Bell from iOS. Family Bell is still discontinued. Some community members use routines as a "Bell".

It's ridiculus that they were discontinued as of the end of February, but apparently this "fix" to remove them didn't appear until ... what is it now? Almost July? Yeah. Some of us couldn't wait around that long for a company that supposedly values customer service, privacy and feedback to fix an issue that should have never been allowed to exist in the first place. When you discontinue a feature, you do it all at once, not disable parts of it slowly over time! The continued allowable use of the feature on Android, I totally get and don't support, but at least I get the rationale. Either way, this is all besides the point. I couldn't wait around that long.
