Find out what song plays on Google nest audio or mini speakers

Find out what song plays on Google nest audio or mini speakers. When I ask Google Assistant to identify the song playing on my Google nest audio and mini speakers, sometimes it does and sometimes it will give me an error saying that something went wrong, to give it a second and try again and then it works. It also doesn't give the complete information every time and will sometimes start in the middle of what it should've said thereby not giving the complete information in which case I have to ask it again.

Hi @compunrd,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand you're having issues with your Google Nest Audio and Nest Mini speakers. It sounds like your Google Assistant isn't responding to your commands, and you're getting an error message that says, "Something went wrong" You've come to the right place for help!

Let's try some steps to get your speakers working again. Please follow these steps and let me know how it goes:

  • Restart your speaker: Unplug your Google Nest speaker, wait about 10 seconds, then plug it back in. Once it has finished restarting, try your command again.
  • Reboot your Wi-Fi: Unplug your modem and router, wait a minute, and then plug them back in. This can often resolve minor network issues.
  • Check for interference: Other devices like microwaves, wireless speakers, or baby monitors can sometimes cause interference. Try moving your speakers to a different room to see if that helps.
  • Improve your Wi-Fi signal: If you're still having frequent issues, try moving your speaker closer to your Wi-Fi router for a stronger connection.

Keep me posted on your progress!

Best regards,

Debora

Debora,

Thank you for trying to help me! Despite my having a BS degree in computer science and considering myself, without trying to sound conceited, to be very techie at age 74, I have already tried what you have suggested, to no avail. There are two Google nest audio speakers in the living room on the TV stand with one just above the modem/router and the other less than 3 feet away. I have one odd (the other one died) google nest mini speaker in the bedroom which is on the other end of my home. I continue to have this problem with both the Google nest audio and the Google nest mini. Additionally, sometimes I have to ask more than once because it doesn't give me the entire announcement. Any other suggestions? I hope that you're not going to tell me to factory reset all three speakers. That seems to be everybody's answer to everything which I'm getting tired of. All three speakers are part of a speaker group and the two in the living room are also in stereo. Please advise.

Much obliged,

– Jim

Forgot to ask you in my last reply… Does this have anything to do with it?

Hi, DeboraJ,

Thanks for your most recent reply. Sorry that I couldn't get back with you sooner, but I've had 2 problems. This past Monday, 9/22, I had an Apicoectomy/oral surgery which I've been recuperating from and had to cook special for a soft diet for a few daysand secondly, since Tuesday, 9/23, my Internet has been going on and off. Despite my ISP saying that there is not a problem with my modem, someone from my ISP is coming to my home this coming Wednesday to see about fixing the problem since they think it's outside of my home somewhere. When you said about moving one of my devices to "another home structure" what do you mean by "another home structure"? Another residence? I don't really have any close friends that I would be willing to ask to let me go to their home with my devices and I just recently lost my best friend. I have no relatives in the area. BTW, since I last communicated with you, I have NOT had the issue anymore of Google Assistant not identifying songs any longer except that when it replies, it still gives me a fit "sometimes" and cuts off some portion starting at the beginning to where I might have to ask it a second time. Please advise. Thanks!

Hi @compunrd,

Thanks for trying the steps I shared with you regarding the issue with your Google Assistant. Regarding the link you shared, we haven't received reports of a similar issue at the moment, and it doesn't seem to be related. Let me share another step with you!

  • As you mentioned you don't want to perform a factory reset, that's perfectly fine. Instead, we'll try moving one of your devices to another home structure. Once you move it, please try running the Assistant and see how it works.
  • Additionally, you may need to contact your ISP. It's possible that your router or modem's firmware needs to be updated, or you may need to upgrade your internet speed.

Please try these steps and let me know how it goes!

Best regards,

Debora
