This is a recurrent problem, introduced either by Google OR Spotify (they are NOT clear about that!)

This issue is still present. I am having the exact same issue, even without routines.
I've tried EVERYTHING. Reset devices. unlinked, relink, Spotify. etc. etc. etc. Google assistant refuses to play anything with Spotify that is a custom playlist.
This is unbelievable that in 2026 this is an issue.
FIX YOUR SOFTWARE!

Today I tried 10 different ways to play DISCOVER WEEKLY PLAYLIST!
No success! I have to listen to what Google wants! A song called discover weekly, another playlist with the same name, ANYTHING except MY PERSONAL DISCOVER WEEKLY PLAYLIST!!!
It's frustrating that this ugly bug is now present for so long that a just can't remember when it was reintroduced for the last time.
IS IT SO HARD TO GIVE PRIORITY TO PERSONAL PLAYLISTS, THEN PUBLIC PLAYLISTS, THEN LPs, THEN SONGS???
THIS WAS WORKING! IT WAS BROKEN! IT WAS FIXED! IT WAS BROKEN! FIXED AGAIN! BROKEN AGAIN! MEANWHILE, 3 YEAS HAVE PASSED WITH RECURRING ISSUES!!
WHY GOOGLE!
WHY??

Today is working on my STANDALONE Nest Mini, but NOT on my STEREO pair!
I will try to change the name of the STEREO PAIR (that keeps dropping back to the LEFT device name) to see if there are any changes.

After 3 weeks of working, this morning it didn’t play the playlist! Google says that it couldn’t find the playlist or that it is not available! Please fix this, bevause ot had worked properly for the last 3 weeks, so why does Google don’t find it suddenly?

It's RANDOM.
Either works, either doesn't...
Worst...
Either works on STANDALONE devices and doesn't work on STERO PAIRS, or doesn't work at ALL!
It's a MESS!

Google said in a personal email that this BUG was finally fixed.
I already saw the NEW (BETA) firmware on ALL my devices.
Had to RESET my STEREO PAIR RIGHT device because i lost the ability to control the volume from all devices
In relation with the PLAY voice command I'm still testing if the correct playlists are played in the right order (PERSONAL, MADE FOR ME, PUBLIC, then LP's then SONGS)
In the recent use, i was able to play the correct PLAYLISTS using the "Play xxx PLAYLIST" - before the bug was reintroduced there was NO need to use the "PLAYLIST" keyword on the command.
I will keep this topic updated with new feedback...

Works here on nest hub, though not on original Google home or home mini v1 or V2.

It's working on my Google Nest Minis (2nd Gen)
What firmware do you have? I now have (on all devices)
System firmware version: 526062 (current PREVIEW firmware https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7365257)
Cast firmware: 20251119_1643_RC07 (this is "new"...)

How are you getting actual email responses? One of the most frustrating parts of this now year long issue is the lack of acknowledgement or engagement from Google. I sure as hell won't be attempting Google ai products if the quality drop off is anything like their home product.

Almost everything seems to be OK now...
Sadly when asking for a ROUTINE the device gives VOCAL feedback of what's going to do (this was OFF previously and it was better that way)... "Hey Google, Sleep!" - the device should execute the commands SILENTLY.
Playlists seem to be playing OK (but there is always the need to add the keyword "playlist"). Before there was NO NEED (the priority was PERSONAL PLAYLISTS -> PUBLIC PLAYLISTS -> ALBUMS -> SONGS)
This was ALL nicely implemented in the past...
