Google Assistant's selection of voice settings is unstable.

GoBananas
Community Member

We have always had selected the non-default voice for Google Assistant, but the voice is not stable and it often plays the default even when one of the non-default voice's is set (in our case Pink). When checking settings the selection has not changed, but the voice does. We have a veriety of numerous Google Next speakers around the house. Google needs to fix this. Thanks

Well that response makes no sense since I have selected it from both the Hub Max and my Android phone and it works, but only sometimes. The Hub Max will go back and forth between the default voice and the non-default selected voice. In fact it will do that sevearl times a day. Thanks for reading

Hey GoBananas,

Chiming in, sorry for the confusion. Could you tell us when the issue started? What country are you located in? Please try using the Google Assistant app on your phone and check if you have the same issue.

Keep us posted.

Cheers,

Muddi

Palm Springs California USA. Very clear speach patterns we have. It has been this way since we first setup our Nest speakers, e.g., Hub, Hub Max, Minis, etc. and that is more than a couple years. We have Android phones and they are all connected to my Google Home acct. I've been in tech since the 70's at Caltech, so I know my way around tech. Just this morning the default voice was responding, then the custom voice started responding. Google's voice is unstable. "I run lean clean fast machines (tech)" Thanks

Two friends are reporting to me that they are experiencing the same issues with thevoice on their Hub Max changing back and forth on it's own like it has a split personality or something. Is anyone NOT experiencing this?

Hi there,

Thanks for the information. Could you tell us the current firmware version of your Nest Hub Max?

Fuchsia 11.2023036.3.135 Hub Max

But note we have several Nest speakers and the switching voice issue is across them all.

Hey GoBananas,

Could you please provide us with the firmware version of your devices, as well as the versions of the Google Home and Assistant apps on your phone? This will help us further isolate the issue.

Cheers,

Muddi

All firmware is the latest provided by Google. I keep all our phones and devices up to date, and Google updates Nest deveices automatically, Hub Max, Hub, Mini, etc. Same with friends that experience the same issue of thier's having split personalities/voices.

Hi GoBananas,

Understood! It is best if you could provide the specific firmware version so we can confirm. Follow the steps below to know-how:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings > Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Done. I filled out the form. Note: this seems to be a wide spread issue when even I'm hearing about it from others.

Glad to hear. Our Nest collection continues to have split personalities changing voice on us all day long, and two friends are having the same issue, which is very frustrating. Thanks

Google Home support just told me that a new firmware version 12.xxxx... just released and it typically takes about a week for most devices to update. They furthure believe this should resolve the known issue of voice instability. Let's hope in a week I can report all is well. I will update then. Thanks

So far no resolution. However the Firmware update seems to still not have happened. I was told that should fix it. Not sure how long to wait for the firmware update. Any ideas? It's been more than a week. Thanks

Hello there,

We hear you. How about if you give us the firmware version of your Nest device? Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings   Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Check the version on your Nest display:

  • Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  • Tap Settings   About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    • For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If "Fuchsia Version" is also listed, this means your device runs Fuchsia.

Thanks,

Dan

I did that this several hours ago already and the new 12.xxxxx version has not hit our devices yet. Unfortunately users can't force the firmware update, we jus thav eto wait for it to roll out to our devices.

The software/firmware never updated, so problems remain unchanged. Frustrating!
