Google Display "Nothing is playing right now"

In the morning I say  "Good Morning Google" and it responds and start going through my routine I defined.  Recently, if I tell the display to stop it says "Nothing is playing right now"  If I ask what is playing it tells me what is playing, if I ask it to stop again is still says "Nothing is Playing Right Now"  So it knows something is playing but still replies as if nothing is on.  I have tried to reboot and I have even reset the device still does same thing. Only way to stop it is to unplug and plug back in.    All this used to work about two weeks ago without any issues.

Same problem here with both my speakers (Google Home and Google Nest Mini 2).

Same problem for many (all?) Google Home speaker users. And Google communicates the Apple way, i.e. not.
