Google Home Music Subscriptions Linking Feature Badly Unstable.

Google Home Music Subscriptions Linking Feature Badly Unstable. I'm I.T., so I know very well how to trouble shoot. Sometimes the linking works and many times it does not. My paid Spotify subscription has been linked in the Google Home Android app for about 1-1/2 years, yet Google Home (Nest Max and many others) often say you need to link your Spotify account... Rebooting all devices, sometimes resolves it, but usually not., Rebooting the entire network sometimes resolves, but usually not. Rebooting phone, network, and all our many Nest devices sometimes works, but usiually not. A complete (and very painful and time consuming) reset of everything will sometimes resolve it. Google - it should not be so painfully unstable. Fix the instability. Our Alexa setup at the office seems to never suffer such failures. Thanks for reading.

It's starting to seem that Google Home and Spotify don't play well with each other. Google's voice would change back and forth on its own between default and the voice we chose. Since unlinking Spotify the voice issues seems improved too.

Hi GoBananas,

Thanks for posting in the Community.

I understand how you feel about this. I also appreciate you sharing the steps you've tried trying to solve this. I can also see that all the possible troubleshooting steps are done. Could you provide the cast firmware of your Google Nest speakers so we can take a closer look into this?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Princess

Thank you for your reply.

Cast Firmware: 1.69.362882

System Firmware: 11.20230306.3.134

Could Spotify be a contributing factor? That is the music account we have linked.

Note: this info. is for one of our many Nest devices, this is our Nest Hub Max.

Some updates. I uninstalled Spotify and unlinked it from Google Home and replaced it with the free version of iHeart. So far the issues are much improved. Spotify may possibly be all, or in part, the culprit. Why Spotify works with Alexa but not Google Home then becomes the question.
