Google Home Speaker plays someone else's playlist.

About 3 weeks ago my Google Home Speaker started playing someone else's playlist instead of mine. I have checked all of the suggestions that Google and YouTube have given me at least a dozen times but no luck. I am paying for the premium service from YouTube and now can no longer get my playlist to play on the speaker. I have no problem playing my playlist on my Android phone. It just won't play on my Home speaker. Does anyone have any ideas what the problem could be? Thanks.

This is happening to me as well. YTM premium as well. It plays some random playlist. Sometimes the playlist doesn't even have any matching words to my playlist name.

Hi there!

I understand how frustrating it must be to have your Google Home Speaker not play your playlist, especially when you're paying for a premium service. It's a simple pleasure that shouldn't be so difficult.

Let's try a different approach. Can you tell me more about the playlist you're trying to play? Is it a custom playlist you've created, or is it a pre-made one? Have you tried playing other playlists on the speaker?

Confirm the default music provider is set up correctly in the Google Home app.

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Tap on Settings.
  3. Then tap Add + > Service > Music.
  4. Select the default music provider you would like the Google Assistant to use.

Perhaps there's something specific about this particular playlist that's causing the issue. The more information you can provide, the better I can help you find a solution.

Regards,

Brandon.

I have removed the default provider and re-selected it to be YouTube Music premium. The only other thing I ever use the speakers for is playing a song so that it just continues playing whatever after that.

Hi nukerso,

Thanks for following up. I understand how frustrating it is when your speaker isn’t playing the correct playlist. Let’s try to fix this!

I also appreciate your efforts made. To gather more information, I’d like to ask the following:

  • What is the specific model of your Google Home speaker?
  • What exact voice command did you use to play the desired audio content? And what did the speaker play instead?
  • Does this inconvenience only occur with a specific playlist, or does it happen with other playlists or songs as well?

For now, let’s try the following steps:

If none of the above steps resolve the inconvenience, you may need to perform a factory reset on your speaker. Please note that this will erase all settings, so back up any important data before proceeding. You can find instructions on how to set up your speaker again here: Set up your Google Nest or Home speaker or display.

Let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Jenniffer
