Hi,
I have a Vizio and Samsung smart TV with built in Chromecast. I would like to know, whether I can turn on and off my TV with Google Home speaker with out external chromecast.
I saw many posts this is possible with externally connected chromecast dongle to the TV, would like to know whether this is possible with out external dongle.
If this is possible can some one explains the underlying technology or communication. Thanks in advance.

Hi chinnabommu,
Turning the TV on/off by voice command is only available for Chromecast dongle's that are plugged in to a HDMI-CEC port and connected to an external power supply.

Thank you Cathal.
If you know more details (Like any protocols involved and exchange of information) , how Google home is communicating with chrome cast (dongle), please answer.
Do you know any details if google home is working on to remove this dependency on external chromecast dongle. Thanks.

Hi again,
A CEC enabled HDMI port can send a signal to turn the TV on/off. A TV with Chromecast built-in is not able to power the TV on/off because of how it's integrated with the TV by the manufacturer.
This is not something that Google can change via software it would need to be built in by the TV manufacturer.

Thanks Cathal_S and Jake.
Not sure whether it is relevant or not in this group. Do you know how google cast (Cast core) works, underlying protocol for casting as well as waking up TV if it is in stand by mode (With out external chrome cast)

Thanks Jake. I am looking for internal details (Underlying protocols or exchange of info) how mobile device (Google Assistant) is controlling TV with chromecast built in.
Not sure whether this is the right group to check. If you can provide any Google partner engineer details to check with hi/her. Thanks.
