Google Hub Sunrise wake up too bright

Kcial
Community Member

I'm attempting to use my Google hub device as an alarm clock using the "sunrise wake up" feature. It is not connected to any smart bulbs. My understanding was that this is supposed to be a graduation brightening of the screen (in softer colors?) however, it starts out jarringly bright white light. It's not very gentle as suggested. Any way to change the color of this, or the intensity?

Hi Kcial,

Thanks for visiting the Google Nest Community. You’re right that when a sunrise alarm is set, the screen gradually brightens until it's time to wake up. Try to customize the Sunrise alarm:

  1. Set an alarm with the voice command "Hey Google, set an alarm for 6 AM tomorrow," or swipe up from the bottom of the display and tap Alarms > Set a time.
  2. Turn on the Sunrise alarm.
  3. To customize the alarm, tap Sunrise alarm:
    1. With compatible smart lights, customers can have the lights in their room brighten during sunrise.
    2. Adjust the sunrise window for a faster or slower-paced sunrise.
    3. Customers can select a pre-alarm. With a pre-alarm, soft sounds like birds chirping play in the last minutes prior to the alarm tone.
  4. When finished, tap Done.

Let me know if there will be any changes in brightness.

Alex

Hi Alex,

Yes, you're correct about this, and this is how I properly set up my alarms. However, with most "sunrise" clocks or features, the screen starts out red prior to progressing to orange, yellow and eventually bright white. The feature on this Google device does not utilize such colors, it starts with a very bright white - this does not appear to be dimmable. I am not currently using any smart lights in the room as I'm trying to avoid also waking my partner.
