For whatever reason (way I was brought up?), I typically respond to one of my Google Home Devices (displays & minis) with "Thank you". Sometimes the Assistant will then respond with a decent response such as "You're Welcome". But sometimes the Assistant gives a totally off the wall response, usually causing me a bit of grief. The most common such response is to start playing something on the AVR in my Media Room. I then have to get up and go turn on the associated TV and turn them both off. Very annoying!
Any idea why this happens? I swear that all I say is "Thank you". Nothing else. Nothing to do with the AVR or whatever it does. I've taken to unplugging whatever device it was, waiting 30 seconds and plugging it back in. Don't know if that dues any good, but it makes me fell better.
Hope someone has an idea of why this happens and how to fix it. I should just stop saying Thank you, but it's kind of ingrained in me.

Hi there tsesee,
Thanks for reaching out to our community.
I understand how frustrating it can be for Google Assistant to keep responding after you've thanked it. Let's see if we can fix this!
First, let's check if there are any routines in your Google Home app. Routines can be accidentally triggered and activate your Assistant. Here's how to check:
It's also possible your devices are having trouble recognizing your voice. Here's how to improve speech recognition and retrain your Google Assistant:
Let me know how it goes!

Angel.

Thanks for the reply. Let me give you a little more context. The occasion that prompted my rant was. I went into my office from my kitchen where I have two FEIT smart lights. I previously had been watching TV with a Denon AVR named S760 on both Google Home and my network. Other times I listen to music from a USB drive in the S760. I forgot to turn off the kitchen lights, so I said to my Lenovo Display 8 "Hey Google turn off the kitchen lights". It did so and as I usually do. I said "Thank you". It said "Playing next on S760". I went into my media room and the Denon was playing a song from the USB.
I have a routine that turns on the S760 and brings up the last played song from the USB but doesn't play it. I use it to start my workout routine and it also turns on subwoofers and lights. I have one other routine that at night turns on subwoofers in my bedroom and starts a station from Pandora on a Sony AVR.
I am showing this only as the latest example. It can happen on any of my four displays or three minis. It appears to be random except that I believe it only happens after I say "Thank you" and it always turns on the Denon AVR in the media room.
Any ideas?

The starter for the workout routine is just "Start Workout". After my workout, i turn off the Denon with a remote, not a command.

Hey there tsesee,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I understand it might be a bit counterproductive, but could you try using a different phrase instead of "thank you" after any speaker performs an action? Something like "I appreciate it" would be helpful. This will help us test if "thank you" specifically is causing this to happen.
There's a chance this routine might be triggering due to a misinterpreted command. Can you try just saying "thank you" to your Google devices multiple times and tell me what happens to your devices?
Since the routine you created is still very important, I would suggest pausing all of your routines. You can do this by following these steps:
Alternatively, you can try recreating your Google Home routines to rule out any problems with misinterpreted commands. However, testing what specifically triggers your other devices first would be very helpful.
Let me know how it goes.

Angel

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have been trying to avoid "Thank you" and use variations of "I appreciate it". Been working so far. Today though, I found out it isn't related to thank you. I was leaving my media Room and said " hey Google Leave Media Room" which is a routine that turns off my powered subwoofers that are on a smart plug and turns of the overhead lights that are on a smart dimmer. Google replied "[laying nest on S760" which of course is the Denon AVR. And it started playing the USB. So, I don't understand it all. I'm not comfortable with redoing everything so I guess I'll just live with it. I haven;t heard of anybody else having this problem so it's probably something in a routine.
Thanks for all your time and good suggestions.
