Google Nest Audio stops playing radio station after 5 minutes

I have a Nest Audio unit in my kitchen (named Rachel) that is having no end of issues. The biggest issue is playing the radio - I say "play 97.3" and it responds "Playing Boom 97.3 on iHeartradio", and it works, for about 5 minutes, and then it stops. If I look at the Home app, it thinks it's still playing. But it's not.  This happens virtually every time.  I have rebooted the speaker, and I have factory reset the speaker. Nothing changes.

In addition, I can no longer move music to the kitchen.  If I am in the living room listening to music on a different speaker, and I say "Move this music to Rachel" or "Play this music in the kitchen" nothing happens.  The speaker goes silent, doesn't move the music and then resumes playing.  And I've giving up on using it in speaker groups, because that doesn't work either.

 Thoughts?

Also happens on Tunein Radio.  This is incredibly frustrating.

Hi avb1,

Thanks for reaching out! I'm happy to help. To diagnose the issue with your Nest Audio, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • How far is your Nest Audio from your Wi-Fi router?
  • Have you updated your Nest Audio to the latest software?
  • Does this happen with all radio stations, or just some?
  • Finally, could you try moving your Nest Audio closer to your Wi-Fi router and see if the problem persists?

I'll be waiting for your responses.

Regards,

Manuel

I am unaware of any method of forcing an update to the nest audio firmware. It gets whatever Google pushes to it.  As I did a factory reset 3 days ago I'd should be current.

System firmware version: 384934

Cast firmware: 2.58.384934

As to the router questions - I have a 3 node nest WiFi pro system and the speaker is about 25ft from one of the nodes.  I don't think WiFi connectivity is the issue.

Hi avb1,

Thanks for the reply! I recommend you follow these steps:

Unlink the radio service: Visit the "Link your radio service" section in the Google Home app and follow the instructions to unlink it. Please visit Link to radio service.

Once unlinked, search for the radio station you want in the Google Home app and add it again.

Here is the link where you can find the commands you can use to control the radio on your Google Nest speaker. Visit Listen to radio on your Google nest speaker.

I hope this helps!

Regards,

Manuel

The radio services I am interested in are accessible from the Google home app and do not need to be linked.

This is from the Radio page in the home app

"You can also play thousands of radio stations without linking from providers such as TuneIn, iHeartRadio, and NPR. Just start by asking for a station like "play KISS FM".

Hi avb1,

Thanks for the reply and for telling me that the radio is accessible. I recommend you make this by removing your speaker (Chicken) from the group it's currently linked with. Then, you can re-add "Chicken" to the desired group. Here are the steps to remove and re-add a speaker: please visit Create and manage speaker groups.

I hope this helps!

Manuel

I think you replied to the wrong person.  I don't have a speaker named "Chicken" and I my issue isn't with speaker groups.
