Google Nest Hub (2nd Gen) - Won't Turn on TCL TV

Hello.  I need help please.  I bought the Nest about 2 weeks ago, and my TCL TV arrived the other day.  I set them both up (same network, both using Google Home).  When I tell my Nest to turn on my TV, it responds "okay turning on the TV" but it does not turn on.  However, if I turn the TV on myself, with my TV remote, and then tell the Nest to turn OFF the TV, it turns it off with no problem.

Can anyone assist?

Hi Sunshine120479,

Thank you for contacting the community! I understand the situation you have been experiencing with your recently purchased Nest Hub (2nd Gen) and your TCL TV. Regarding its operation with your TV, the Nest Hub cannot turn the TV on; it can only turn it off, even when the device indicates it is performing that action. Since you have already confirmed they are connected to the same Wi-Fi network, I'm here to help you with this!

To provide you with the most appropriate troubleshooting steps, I’d like to ask a few questions:

  • Do you use a Chromecast or Google TV with your television?
  • Do you use Gemini or Google Assistant to control your Nest Hub?
  • What is the exact command you use to turn on your TV?
  • Have you tried using other voice commands to play music or a program on Netflix, HBO, or YouTube?

In the meantime, I would like to share some troubleshooting steps that may help you.

  • Make sure your TV's firmware is updated by checking the TV user manual. You may also contact your TV manufacturer to verify.
  • Make sure CEC is turned on. For some TVs, adjusting certain settings can turn off CEC automatically.
  • Unplug the TV, wait 10 minutes, and plug it back in.
  • Use a different voice command for Google Assistant and for Gemini for Home voice assistant.
  • If you’ve turned the TV on or off repeatedly during a short period of time, the voice commands may briefly stop working. Wait about 10 minutes before trying again.
