Google Nest Hub Stops Displaying Photos

BenDRL

I have the 2nd gen Google Net Hub. I use it to display photos from my Google Photos account. It works fine for a while but then the photos will eventually be displayed as just blank white. If I look at my app, it's displaying the actual photo, and it does not advance to the next photo. The other functions still work (time, music, etc), and the photo labels are correct -- just the photo is blank white. The wifi signal is strong. As soon as I unplug and replug it in, the problem gets fixed, but eventually the blank white photos issue reappears and does not correct itself until I unplug and replug in. I've tried a reset of the device, and it gets fixed, but eventually the problem comes back. Help!

Hi @BenDRL!

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Hub (2nd Gen) is not displaying your photos completely and is only showing them in white. I appreciate your efforts in taking those steps before. I'm happy to help you!

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • Have you performed any reboot of your WiFi router?
  • Is the album completely synchronized with Google Photos?
  • Are you using a shared album?
  • Are you using an Android or iOS device?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi

Here are the answers:

  • Have you performed any reboot of your WiFi router? - YES
  • Is the album completely synchronized with Google Photos? - It is synchronized. I'm not sure what completely means though
  • Are you using a shared album? No
  • Are you using an Android or iOS device? iOS

For context, I also have the Nest Hub Max, and it works perfectly when displaying photos.

Thanks!

Hi @BenDRL!

Thanks for the update. Let's check some settings on your device:

1. Verify if Google Photos is enabled.

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Select the device from Home View.
  • Select the Nest display.
  • At the top right, tap Settings, and then Photo Frame.
  • Choose the preferred photo source:

    Google Photos.
    Art gallery.
    Full-screen clock.

2. Verify Google Photos app settings.

  • Make sure your mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi or linked to the same Google Account as the display.
  • Open the Google Photos app.
  • At the top right, tap the account's icon.
  • Verify that the account shown is the one linked to the display.
  • To switch accounts, choose another account or tap Add another account.
  • Tap to close the account window.
  • Tap Photos settings, then Apps & devices, and then Photo Frames.
  • Tap the Nest display where the album should appear.
  • Verify that the selected albums match those set in the Home app.

If you have already checked these options and everything is correct, I would like to get the firmware version of your Nest Hub (2nd gen).

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,

Geremi

It turns out it was an autogenerated photo album that was causing this. Thanks for your ideas!

Hi @BenDRL!

I'm glad to hear you solved the issue with the blank white photos on your Nest Hub (2nd gen)! It's interesting that an auto-generated photo album was causing the problem. It's great that you're enjoying all the possibilities it offers you.

If you have any questions or need help, please don't hesitate to let us know.
