Google Nest Hub disconnecting after upgrade of wifi to 802.11ax

I recently upgraded the wifi in my home to wifi6 and configured for 802.11ax in order to mesh to some wifi repeaters in the farther areas away from my AP.  Since then, the two google nest displays in my house are intermittently disconnecting from wifi (shows "no internet" and then reconnects after a few seconds).  Sometimes this happens several times within a 5-10m window; other times it's pretty stable for a few hours.

I'm guessing that it has something to do with the change from AC to AX.   Anyone have similar experience?

Yes. There's lots of threads on this, my one got locked for some reason.

We've so far found out that Google home/nest products don't support WiFi 6, even if your mesh system is backward compatible with WiFi 5.

Only workaround I know about so far is if you can force your Google stuff to connect to the 2.4ghz band, they will still disconnect and reconnect, but the bigger problem was when the device would fail to reconnect by itself. The only way of getting it to reconnect was a power cycle.

All my home/nest devices are still resetting and disconnecting themselves briefly 1-2 times a day

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help here,  Biggsyboi.

Lazyazn88, thanks for reaching out. And for the details you’ve shared, are you using a Nest Wi-Fi device? There is a possibility that this has something to do with that setting, since everything was working before the configuration. Try to change it and observe if it makes a difference.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Juni

I don’t use Google Nest WiFi products. My network setup is a Ubiquiti deployment, I upgraded one of my access points to wifi6 and then enabled 802.11ax to enable a mesh WiFi repeater on the upper level. I’ll disable 802.11ax and test. Good ideas.

I pinned my IoT SSID to an 802.11AC AP (not wifi6) and they're still dropping; though not as frequently and not for as long.

Hi lazyazn88,

Thanks for keeping us in the loop and sorry for the delay. If possible, could you try to use another network to isolate it?

I look forward to your response.

Best,
Juni

Do we know if the nest hub 2nd gen is affected? Is it all nest mini and hub devices or only the older ones that are affected??
