Google Nest Mini keeps resetting

cthuluii

Hi, my Google Nest Mini keeps resetting approximately every day. It either remains disconnected in the app or just factory-resets itself and needs to be paired again.

I've factory reset the device twice manually just to make sure. I've also tried with another power adapter as I have another two Nest Minis, but only this one keeps doing this. I think the unit is defective, I have bought it second-hand - any chance of some help?

Hi cthuluii,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand that your Google Nest Mini keeps resetting daily, factory-resetting itself, and disconnecting from the app, requiring constant re-pairing. I appreciate you've already attempted troubleshooting steps, such as manual factory resets and swapping the power cable, yet the issue still persists. No worries, I can definitely help you with this and look for the best next steps.

To continue assisting you with this strange behavior, I’d like to ask for the following information:

  • How long did the device work as intended before experiencing this issue?
  • Can you describe how the resetting behavior was discovered?
  • What is the firmware version of your Google Nest Mini? Here’s a helpful article about how to find the firmware version of your device.
  • Have you noticed if the device ever starts working again by itself without requiring you to re-pair it?
  • Is the device plugged directly into a wall outlet, or is it connected to a power strip, surge protector, or extension cord?
  • Have you experienced any Wi-Fi issues in your home?
  • Have you tried moving the Nest Mini to the exact location and using the same power outlet of one of your working Nest Mini devices? This helps us isolate whether the issue is with the device itself or the location/environment.
  • What’s the location of the affected speaker in relation to the Wi-Fi access points or routers?

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hi @jenniffert

thanks for the reply. To your questions:

  • How long did the device work as intended before experiencing this issue?
The device stays "online" few hours max, something like 1-2 hrs before it resets itself.
  • Can you describe how the resetting behavior was discovered?
Device appears "offline" in the Google Home app. Other Nest devices I own are fine.
  • What is the firmware version of your Google Nest Mini? Here’s a helpful article about how to find the firmware version of your device.
    System Firmware: 505721
    Cast Firmware: 3.77.505721
  • Have you noticed if the device ever starts working again by itself without requiring you to re-pair it?
No. I have retried retried repairing and then the device worked for 1-2 hrs before resetting.
  • Is the device plugged directly into a wall outlet, or is it connected to a power strip, surge protector, or extension cord?
Directly into wall outlet. I have also tried with another adaptor that I use with my other Google Nest Mini and this did not help. Reset occurred again.
  • Have you experienced any Wi-Fi issues in your home?
No, WiFi is very stable and other Nest Mini works fine.
  • Have you tried moving the Nest Mini to the exact location and using the same power outlet of one of your working Nest Mini devices? This helps us isolate whether the issue is with the device itself or the location/environment.
I have tried in other locations / power outlets in house without any improvement.
  • What’s the location of the affected speaker in relation to the Wi-Fi access points or routers?
Nest sits right next to the WiFi router. I have tried moving it around the house, no effect. The reset occurs still. As I've mentioned, the other Google Nest Mini I have works fine for years. I have validated and they use the exactly same firmware.

Hi cthuluii,

Thanks for following up on the case and for sharing that detailed information. This definitely helps us move forward with the investigation.

As a next step, please share a screenshot of your home's activity history within the Google Home app. Reviewing this will help us check for any recorded instances where the device might have unlinked and subsequently reset. For reference, you can see this article: Google Home app Activity.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hi, sure here are the Activity Logs, they don't show anything even if I just select the device
