Google Nest keeps playing wrong YouTube Music playlist

Kotawolf
Community Member

Posting this again, because it is getting worse.

I am using Google Music to hold my music.

I tell it to play.. "Keith's List" and it will repeatedly play Tobi Keith play list instead of my play list.
The Nest devices have been rebooted several times. The internet provider was changed for other reasons, but the issue just keeps getting worse.

I made a new play list called "my relaxation" and when I tell it to "Play my relaxation play list", it comes back and says playing relaxing music on youtube. It ignores my YouTube Music play lists far too often.

I found several other threads on this issue, one was just two weeks ago, but it is locked down to where I can't respond to it.

When is Google going to do something to improve this...
Someone from Google frequently says they will escalate this or tell us to fill out an additional form, but it does no good.
How do we get help with this issue?

It should not take me 30 minutes to an hour of telling ..

"Hey Google play my youtube music playlist, Jude list" for it to finally play my list.

Hello @Kotawolf,

Thank you for providing detailed information about the issue you're experiencing with your Google Nest device and YouTube Music.

I understand the frustration of encountering difficulties with controlling your music playlists. I appreciate your patience and persistence in trying to resolve this issue. I appreciate your patience.

To better understand the problem, please provide the following information:

  • Nest Device Models: Please specify the exact models of your Nest devices (e.g., Nest Audio, Nest Hub).
  • Network Setup: Are you using Wi-Fi or Ethernet for your Nest devices?
  • For how long has the issue been going on?

While I gather more information, you can try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Clear YouTube Music App Cache and Data: Clear the cache and data of the YouTube Music app on your device (if applicable).
  2. Check for updates. Ensure your Nest devices and YouTube Music app are running the latest software versions.
  3. Try a Different Voice Command: Experiment with different voice commands to see if it improves recognition. For example, try "Play the playlist called 'Keith's List' on YouTube Music."

If these steps don't resolve the issue, please check out this link to get more steps: Plays an incorrect song, playlist, artist, or album.

Please let me know how it goes. Thank you.

Regards,
Jorge

Nest Hub 7"

Of course they are wifi, they have no ethernet port.

This has been going on for around two YEARS, and I've reported it several times, so have multiple others.

Your troubleshooting steps:
1 Not applicable.
2.  Been done repeatedly..on all 5 that are doing this.
3.  This has been done repeatedly..  it doesn't help.
I've tried renaming the lists. Tried multiple ways to call up the list.

Hi @Kotawolf,

Thanks for the follow-up information.

I'd like to ask a couple of questions more:

  • Do you have a different music service (such as Spotify or Apple Music)?
    • If so, did you try to play a different playlist from another music service?
  • How far is your Wi-Fi network from your device?

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany

I don't use other music services.

I have 5 different nest hubs having this issue.  One of them is in the same room as the WiFi point.
The one in the bedroom is maybe 30-40 feet.

Last night, I tried for 15 minutes, three different lists and it kept playing stuff I wasn't asking for.

Sorry for the delay response, I didn't get a notification.

Hi there!

Thanks for the follow-up.

To better assist you, I'd like to ask a question:

  • Do you have a premium subscription?

In the meantime, let's check a few things:

  • Factory reset your Nest Hub: It resets the device to its original settings, erasing all your configurations. Refer to this article: Factory Reset your Google Nest Hub.
  • Internet Connectivity: Verify that your home network is stable and has a strong signal.

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Melany

No I do not have a premium subscription.

Factory Reset has been done. in the past and it does no good.

Internet connection is stable and strong.

Hi there!

Thanks for the update.

Some features are not available with the free version on YouTube. To enjoy your YouTube Music playlist without restrictions, I recommend upgrading to a YouTube Premium subscription.

Keep me posted.

Regards,
Melany

Except it is AVAILABLE without subscription, because Google killed their own music service and moved all of our songs that we own to YouTube Music.  And then granted the options to listen to those and make new playlists with the music that we uploaded, without having to listen to ads.
I'm not trying to use those paid for features.

Hi there!

I understand your frustration with the changes to Google's music services. While it's true that Google discontinued its standalone music service, your uploaded songs were automatically transferred to YouTube Music.

As you can see on Plays incorrect song, playlist, artist or album.

The supported music services listed below have the following limitations:

  1. Spotify: You need to have a premium account to get the most out of your speaker or display. A subscription is required for most functionality.
  2. YouTube Music: You need to purchase a YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium subscription to get the most out of your speaker or display. This subscription is required for most functionality. YouTube Music account must be from the same Google Account that is linked to your speaker or display.
  3. Apple Music: You need to have an Apple Music subscription to play music from your speaker or display.

Regards,

Brandon.

So, you are saying that Google is intentionally breaking things because people don't want to pay for something they already own.

The problem with your response is that it has worked in the past but the system keeps getting worse with the responses.
