Google Nest mini iPad/iPhone cannot communicate with the device

I’ve tried multiple times to connect my nest mini to Wi-Fi, I’ve unplugged the router, force restart my device on both the iPad and the Nest Mini and it’s still not working, I’ve read a similar post about the same topic and tried those steps and it’s still not worked. What’s my next step? The message it sent is below

Something went wrong

[name] speaker may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPad. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPad’s privacy settings. Then try again.

Hey folks,

Thanks for reaching out.

We're sorry to hear that you're experiencing this with your devices. Let's make sure that the Bluetooth of your iPhone is turned on and also connected to the same Wi-Fi network where the Google Nest speakers are connected.

By the way, have you tried to check with other device if it can connect to your Google Nest speakers? Also, connecting it using an Android device would help as it will isolate the issue.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Princess

I don’t have an available android device to test, and yes, I’ve tested on iPhone and iPad

Hi there,

Let’s further look into it. A few questions: is this the first time you are setting up your Google Nest Mini device? Are you using a private or a shared WiFi connection? If private, is your router dual-band? On which band are you connecting your Google Nest Mini? Are there other Google Home devices connected to the same WiFi network? Are they working fine?

I’ll look forward to your response.

Alex

to answer the questions in order, No it’s not, I’ve successfully connected it to a Wi-Fi network once before, and checked and am pretty sure it is not dual band since I only have one network available for connection. No, this is the only Google assistant/home device.

Not sure if this matters, but I have had this device for 1-2 years, it is still in good condition without any audio or touch errors.

Thanks for the response,

Epic

Hello Epic1,

Thanks for the information you’ve provided. Since you have an iPhone and iPad, let’s try this workaround:

  • Set up a temporary mobile Wi-Fi hotspot. Enable your Cellular data and hotspot.
  • Connect the iPad to the hotspot.
  • Factory reset your Google Nest Mini.
  • Set up using the iPad. Choose the Mobile hotspot on the “Connect to WiFi” page > Complete the set up steps.

If the setup was successful on the temporary Hotspot, the issue is likely with the connection of your Google Nest Mini to your home WiFi. Try to change the connection from the hotspot to your WiFi. From the home view of the Google Home app, tap Devices > Choose your Google Nest Mini > Settings > Device information > WiFi > Forget WiFi. Switch the connection of the iPad from the hotspot to your WiFi > Open the Google Home app > Do the normal set up process again.

Warmly,
Alex
