Google Routines involving Spotify playing on both my speaker and my phone

MaximusMLT
Community Member

I have a Google Routine that plays Ambient Relaxation Playlist from Spotify set to play on my Kitchen Speaker. However lately I am finding out that it is also playing in the background (silent) on my mobile phone. It seems that the routine is started on my phone which in turn is casting the sound to the Kitchen Speaker. This is affecting the battery life of my mobile phone. Before it used to start and play only on the Kitchen Speaker. Any help about this issue please?

Hi MaximusMLT,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

This is not the experience that we wanted you to have; let me help you out. A few things: Is your routine activated via voice command or time-based? You can also adjust your phone settings to stop Spotify from running in the background. Check out the steps below.

Android:

  1. Open the phone's "Settings" menu.
  2. Tap on the "Apps" setting to open it.
  3. Scroll to find "Spotify" and tap.
  4. Then find the "Battery" setting.
  5. Disable "Allow Background Activity."

iPhone:

  1. Mobile settings> Apps> Spotify> Battery> Optimize battery usage> select top all (not optimized for apps)> Spotify> disable.
  2. Restart the phone.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

Juni

Hello Juni,

Thanks very much indeed for advice which I duly followed. My mobile phone is still showing that Spotify is active but am happy with it and just hope it does not drain my battery. The issue maybe since I have a single Spotify account so when I activate Spotify on my Google Display my mobile shows that Spotify is active.

Hi MaximusMLT,

Thanks for responding. You may also try to uninstall and reinstall the Spotify app from your phone to see if there would be any changes on its behavior.

Let us know how it goes.

Hi MaximusMLT,

Chiming in-- have you had the chance to try the steps above? Let us know if that works, otherwise we'll be locking the thread.

Hi Princess,

I am afraid of uninstalling Spotify as am sure that some other problem will pop out.

For the time being am happy with the situation as is.

Thanks.
