Google Speaker shows in Home app, but will not work.

Why would my google home speaker keep telling me "Your Google home isn't set up yet, to get started download of Google Home app in a phone or tablet"? I can see it in the home app, but every time I say "Hey Google", I get the response "Your Google Home isn't set up..."

Every other Google devise in the house is working just fine.

I have the same problem.  Haven't been able to fix it though.  It's a real pain as I keep going in circles.

I figured out the issue yesterday just by chance. Try this...

  1. Open Google Home app
  2. Tap the Wi-Fi icon
  3. Select "Devices" - the icon that shows how many devices are connected
  4. When the list of devices appears, the Google device I could not get to recognize the home app was at the top of the list and showed as "paused"
  5. Un-pause the device and it immediately started working

I don't know why it was paused. My guess is it has something to do with adding it as a new device after resetting it. Which seems to be the steps that a lot of people with the same issue took. Let me know if this solves your issue, I'm curious to see if it works for others.

@jangello, hats off to you in sharing the resolution in the Community. I'm glad that you're able to work this out. 

 

@Jagger, have you been able to try the steps above? How was it? If you have a Nest Wi-Fi router, please try the steps. If you don’t have access to your router/modem settings, it would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first: 

 

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.
