I have my Google nest hub in my bedroom set to turn the screen off during low light, and low light activation to start when the room is dim. Minimum brightness is set to dark.
When I go to sleep the display is off. In the middle of the night, if I move or turn over, the screen turns on and wakes me up with its brightness, which is a bit dumb as a device supposed to aid sleep. I can't find any way to turn this off. How do I fix it?

Do you have "gestures" enabled on the Google Nest Hub in the bedroom?
Just a suggestion here. Thinking the screen is "aware" of your movement and wakes up...
Open Google Home App, Select the Google Nest Hub, Click on Gear, Choose Gestures, and click the slider to disable it.

I am having the same problem, but don't see a GESTURES tab to turn off
thank you

I do, and I can try turning it off. I thought gestures are to turn off alarms and the like, which you would think would be okay to leave on overnight if that's the case. I can give it a go though!

100% agree. Just trying to eliminate a possible bug. Try it one night and see if it makes a difference.

Thank you! It seems to have fixed the problem.

Glad it fixed the problem. That seems to be a bug in the design.

Hey Mr Google. Unfortunately problem has returned. I actually returned one unit for this reason but the replacement is doing the same thing. Not sure why. I did notice when it turned on it said "Good Evening" up the top and displayed a summary of my day, weather etc. What could be causing this?

Hey all,
Sorry for the late reply. I wanted to follow up and see if you are still in need of any help? Please let me know if you are still having any trouble from here, as I would be happy to take a closer look and assist you further.
Best regards,
Jake

Jake, are you someone from Google? If you are, please save us. Many of our sleep got destroyed because of this problem.
I don't think reaching out to people one by one is the solution, as you can see MANY people here face the same issue. Could you solve the problem systematically?
05-09-2022 01:08 PM
Hi Jake,
Thanks for your offer to check it out. My Nest Hub is still waking me up at least 4-5 times per week due to turning on the display in the brightest way possible somewhere between 03:30-04:30am. Hope you know how to solve this problem as I would hate to move it out of the bedroom due to this issue.

SAME HERE !! EVERY .... DANG ... MORNING at 4:30am.. exact, every morning. ARGG

Since it's never been addressed or acknowledged and there's still people posting, it's safe to say the issue still exists. I think a lot of us just gave up on hoping Google would act on it..
Would be nice if you could take a look at it or maybe even pinch Google in the butt and wake them up.

Hey all,
Since the issue seems to be resolved and there is no activity on the thread, I am going to lock it at this time. If you have any questions from here, please feel free to create a new post.
Best regards,
Jake

I’m encountering the same problem as of January 2022. Any solution to this?

Our Nest Hub turns on in the middle of the night quite often. Maybe every night, I don't know, I don't wake up every time, but enough. Often around 4 am the screen goes to a blank bright white and lights up the room. I'm not sure if it's restarting or something, but even if it is, there is no way it should go full bright by default as many people use these as alarm clocks in bedrooms.

Been woken up the last 4 nights at around 4:10am by my Google Nest Hub deciding to light the entire room up! Something strange is definitely going on
01-18-2022 12:45 AM
I have just moved mine to then bedroom and at 4:10 ish it changes from clock and cycles through a few menu items and then goes back to clock. Gestures are not on.
Any thoughts?

Same problem here. I can't be woken up at 4 AM every night. Is this someone's idea of a joke?

I'm having the same issue. Unplugging it. Every night I am up. Its like a nightmare and interrupts my sleep. Let me know if there is a fix but in the meantime this baby about to be packed away!

Two settings Google's really need to fix, that I have turned off to resolves my problems.
First the Recognition & Sharing > Ultrasound sensing (stops it lighting up randomly when I turn over in bed)
Second is Notifications & Digital Well-being > Nightmode, which was set to end at 6am and decides to make a loud noise when it ends. I have made it much later now
01-24-2022 06:34 AM
Thank you for replying! I will try to locate those settings and hopefully I have good luck!

Our night mode is on until 9 am, so it's not that, but I don't know about the other setting. Thing is, it doesn't seem to correlate with movement. I mean, you can get out of bed and go to the bathroom, and it won't register, but the random light-ups happen for seemingly no reason.

I followed PeteClark’s instructions and changed the settings. The screen went on in the middle of the night again while my kid made some noise. I voice commanded Google to turn off the screen, and Google replied “I can’t do that right now because your down time is on.” How frustrating! I had to go go Google Home app to turn off the night mode in order for the screen to be turned off.
Is there anyone from Google reading this forum? Please save us! This is a very frustrating experience!!

Same issue here. I have everything turned off now, hardly using the screen for anything because of this. It only has my alarm now. Which is an expensive clock, without smart options in this set up.
Last night it turned on twice, first time I wasn't even asleep, but turned on my side, back to the Hub, and not moving at all.
So it has nothing to do with gestures, movement or sound. It's a major issue which needs to be fixed soon, because with all the issues I'm experiencing with Google in the last year or so, I'm effing done with them.

Having similar issues. I have a west facing window in the bedrooom and was wondering if the light from the moon setting (particularly when bounced off snow) was lighting up the room enough though my blinds that it was triggering the ambient light sensor?
This Nest Hub replaced a Lenovo Smart Clock, which was never a problem with lighting up at night.
Ideally I would like to have an option as part of "Night Mode" that would keep the screen dark unless touched or triggered with "Ok, Google . . ."

It’s 3:35am. I was sleeping, didn’t move or make any noise, and the Nest screen turned on and woke me.
I voice commanded Google to turn off the screen, and it said “Night mode is on. I can’t do anything.”
You gotta be kidding me.

Apparently this forum is not monitored. I am having the same problem. I unplugged my nest. Solved the problem! Maybe tech support will post a response before the nest and all the other associated products go into the garbage to solve the problem permanently?

Google, for all their BILLIONS - are deaf when it comes to problems like this. I'm not sure how they're supposed to be properly "notified" by their PAYING CUSTOMERS. I also have a Pixel 6 Pro, with which I have a couple of complaints - but they don't care... they don't care... they don't care...
03-29-2022 06:18 PM
Have you guys tried messing with the digital wellbeing settings? There's a downtime option that I am currently testing at night.
03-30-2022 04:42 AM
Yep - tried that, and no matter the setting, sometimes it just has a mind of its own...
03-30-2022 07:19 AM
Yup, we have played with every setting. Last night it went on again around 5 am. Woke my wife, she couldn't get back to sleep.
03-30-2022 07:20 AM
Do you use it as a photo frame or just a clock?
03-30-2022 07:22 AM
Both. It's a photo frame when it's light out, and when it darkens in the room, it goes to a dim clock.
04-04-2022 02:41 PM
I have exactly the same issue I now put a t shirt over it at night so it doesn't wake me up when it lights. Ridiculous they can't help out.
04-20-2022 12:12 AM
Same issue here, it's becoming quite annoying! Can't believe Google hasn't sorted this out yet...
04-20-2022 06:24 AM
When you fail to acknowledge a problem, it doesn't exist...
05-06-2022 03:29 PM
This issue has resulted in us laying it down flat every night. Otherwise it will wake us up multiple times during the week with the white screen. We now just use it for the morning routine traffic, weather, news, etc. Sucks, because we used to use it for the clock too.
It seems to be some sort of software update that's getting pushed around 4:30 our local time. The white screen goes to the Google logo then the photo frame, then clock, then dim. I understand pushing software at night would seem logical, but not for this application.
05-06-2022 04:57 PM
Same problem here. I had to dim the screen to the lowest setting. Now I can’t see it during the day, but at least it stopped waking me up at night (most of the times). Google need tot are care of this pronto!
is there a way to contact them, if they are not monitoring tis forum?
05-06-2022 05:26 PM
Apparently this is a place they created for us to VENT, not to really get any resolution !!
