Issue:  Keep getting may be setup but we could not communicate with it from your iPad.

Troubleshooting so far.

1. Verified local network access is on.  2.  Change wifi.  3. Changed setup devises.  4. Verified the software is up to date enough.  5.  Turned wifi off and on.  6.  Factory reset unit.

Hi constance,

Glad you reached out.

Apologies for responding late. Let's go ahead and sort this thing out by trying these steps so we can set up your Google Nest Mini.

If you're speaker is currently connected to a network:

  1.  Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Tap your device.
  3. At the top right corner, tap Settings  and then Device information.
  4. Next to "Wi-Fi," tap Forget. You’ll be taken back to the Home app home screen.
  5. Follow the setup steps to set up your device on the new Wi-Fi network.

Please make sure that the distance of the Googel Nest Mini is within range from the router as well as your set up device (iPad). Make sure that the iPad is connected to your preferred network and mobile data is turned off.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

If you get an error message that says "could not communicate with your [device]" when you try to forget your network, or the steps above don't work, you'll need to factory reset your device and set it up again.

Hello.  I cannot get to the settings page as it's not setup yet.  I can't get past the setup no matter what wifi I try.  That's where the error happens.  Its as I'm setting it up, the error: may be setup but we could not communicate with it from your iPad.

It is not setup, but kicks it off.

Hi constance,

I appreciate the details you shared.

Can you share the iOS version of the iPad that you're using? Also, it would be very helpful to try setting it up using a different device and make sure that the email that you will use is a regular Gmail account with no accout restrictions.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Princess

I am using iPad 15.3 and iPhone 15.2.   The gmail account is regular account.

Hi Constance,

Thanks for the details you shared.

Let's make sure that the Bluetooth of your iOS devices are turned on while setting up the Google Nest Mini. Also, it would be best if we can try using a different phone, preferably an Android device so we can isolate the issue further and rule out if it is an iOS update issue or not.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Princess

Hi this keeps happening with my Google Nest Speaker when I Try to set it up with my phone or iPad. I have reset everything multiple times, updated everything, and still it won't fully connect to the wifi. It will say "the speaker may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPad. Make sure you have enabled local network access on iPad's privacy settings." Have done all of those things and it is still connected to the local settings. Please help.

Hey eot,

We appreciate the steps you've taken so far. To make sure we cover all our bases, could you try these additional steps:

  • Uninstall and reinstall your Google Home app.
  • Reboot your router for a minute or two to refresh the connection.
  • Check router settings. (AP isolation must be disabled and UPnP must be enabled).
  • Use a mobile hotspot to set up your devices (to isolate the issue).
  • Try using a different phone ( Android if possible).

Keep us in the loop.

Thanks,

Alex
