Hey Google, play 70s on 7 for 2 hours has stopped working

For years I have had a bed time routine that included;

Play 70s on 7 for 2 hours on the Bedroom Display

It worked fine until last week when that command threw the following error:

Sorry, I can't find 70s on 7 for 2 hours.

Rearranging the commands in the line did nothing. I removed "for 2 hours" and it plays, but does not shut off.

Did Google remove this capability? Is it replaced with a different syntaxe?  I found a reddit post saying "Stop music in 2 hours" works, but that command stop Sirius XM and starts Spotify.

Hi MarkMcCain,

Apologies for the delayed response.

This is not the experience we want you to have; let us help you. A few questions: which Nest speakers are we working with? Were there any recent changes made?

It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router, followed by your Nest speakers.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Once done, kindly try other radio stations to see if something similar happens when including the action in a routine. I also suggest that you create a new routine for us to isolate further.

See this routine guide for more information and troubleshooting steps.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

Your reply almost looks like an AI and is close to insulting.  The only change made was google home updated, but...

I have an Samsung A71 android phone running up to date software.  It is rebooted weekly

I have Google Nest Hub Second Generation (2 of them), Nest Mini, and a Google Home Smart Speaker

I have unlinked and linked Sirius XM several times

My router is built into my T-Mobile home internet hub.  I have manually split the 2.4G and 5G signals.  All the google devices are running on the 2.4G connection

The hardware has been the same for awhile.

I have several routines that are executed through out the house, from turning on kitchen appliances in the morning, to playing music during showering and exercise, to arming and disarming my ADT system, to turning lights on and off on command and at preset times.  All the routines work fine, but none of them ask google to due 2 things on one command line, except the bedtime routine that is failing.  Some of the routines play Sirius XM flawlessly.

The routine that failed has worked for years, until the first time I ran it after home updated.  Then I get the error.  The routine runs fine until this command:

Play 70s on 7 on Sirius XM for 2 hours

The reply I get it "I can not find 70s on 7 on Sirius XM for 2 hours"

If I remove the Sirius XM I get

"I can not find 70's on 7 for 2 hours"

If I remove "for 2 hours" it plays music all night or until I wake up and tell it to stop.

If I give it the same voice commands I get the same responses.

If I tell it to play music for 2 hours it plays a random pandora play list for 2 hours.

The problem is nesting commands involving Sirius XM is broken, and the upgrade appears to be the problem.

So I'm clear, the routine is executing. It fails to execute one single line as described above, and that line worked fine until home upgraded.

Hello MarkMcCain,

Apologies for the inconvenience and we hear you! Let’s get to the bottom of this.

Kindly send us the latest firmware version of your Nest device.

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings  and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

To check the version of your Nest display:

  1. Swipe up from the bottom of the display screen.
  2. Tap Settings  and then About device. You should find your "Cast firmware version."
    1. For Nest Hub (1st gen) and Nest Hub Max: If “Fuchsia Version” is also listed, this means your device runs Fuchsia.

Regards,

Dan
