Home/Nest devices don't play Spotify or Disney+ anymore

Since last week, my two Nest Hub 2, my two Google Home Max and my two Nest Audio devices are unable to play  Spotify or Disney+. When I give the corresponding command, the logos or the start screens of Spotify and Disney+ appear on the Nest Hubs, but then an error message appears ("something went wrong" or "an error has occurred"). The error message also appears on the speakers.

I have already reconnected the Disney and Spotify accounts, but that didn't help. If I start the apps on my Pixel smartphone and then cast to the Nest devices, it works without any problems. Spotify is set as my default music service.

I can currently only play music from YT Music and Netflix directly on the devices by command. However, YT Music is no longer able to play my self-created playlists, although this has worked without any problems for years. Some random playlist is played instead. Something seems to be completely broken.

What is interesting is that if I set another non-Google speaker as the default for playing music in the Nest devices, which also supports Google Cast but does not have the Google Assistant integrated, everything works fine. I can then give the Nest device the command and it will then play correctly on the other Cast speaker. Then even my self-created playlists on YT Music are recognized.

I would be very grateful if someone could help.

Good evening

Not sure if this related, but I used to stream Disney+ from my Samsung phone to my TV.

That does not work anymore (pairing attempt fails after 1mn). Same issue from my iPad. Not sure since when, but this is a recent issue.

Other steaming apps (Netflix, Paramount, ...) work fine on my Chromecast.

So definitely a Disney+ issue

Hello velvetTARDIS,

Thank you so much for posting in this community. I’m sorry to know that your Nest devices are unable to play Spotify and Disney Plus. Don’t worry, I'm happy to help.

You can use voice commands to manage your devices, but it’s important to use the correct hot-word to request a response and be specific with the information.

Here you can find more information: Control Google Nest or Home devices by voice

When you request music, try to be specific and clear, and a noisy environment could interfere. The request involved artists with very similar names, similar official albums or playlist names.

Regarding the Disney Plus, for your reference, visit this article: Play TV shows and movies with your speaker or display to manage the account

Additional information Try to perform a reboot on your device. For further information, check out this article: Reboot Google Nest or Home speaker or display

Keep me posted, and if you have any additional details you can provide, they will be helpful.

Best regards,

Daniel.

Unfortunately, restarting the devices did not help. Even a factory reset did not solve the problem.

Renaming the playlist did not help either. For example, I renamed the playlist to a combination of numbers (560817943). Then it simply plays a title that contains some of the numbers, e.g. chapter 179 from a completely random audio book. Sometimes it also replies that it has searched for it on YouTube, but the title is not available or cannot be played at the moment.

As I said before, if I command my Nest Hub 2, Nest Audio or Google Home Max to play it on another non-Google device, such as a JBL Charge with Chromecast built-in, it will play without a problem. It just doesn't work on any of my Google devices.

Hey velvetTARDIS,

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. I’m sorry to know that the situation continues. Don’t worry, let’s explore more options.

  • Make sure that your devices are up to date.
  • Use the same Google account connected to your Nest devices and streaming apps.
  • Try to remove the Google Home app and reinstall it. Then add your streaming app, which you want to use as the default service. For reference, consult this article: Link your music services and set your default service.

I'll look forward to your response.

Regards,

Daniel

I had already done all that before I opened the topic. However, the problem with YouTube Music resolved itself after a few weeks without any action on my part. The problem with Disney+, on the other hand, persists, with the same error message as @Loghead2510 . Netflix, on the other hand, works without any problem

I’ve been having this same issue with Disney plus. I tried everything - unlinking Disney plus and relinking in the home app, factory resetting my hub, deleting the Google home app off my phone, etc. Disney plus gives the following error when I try to voice cast: “Something went wrong. Please try again. If you continue to have issues, please visit our Help Center at help.disneyplus.com.

LOAD_FAILED -” , but casting from the Disney plus app to the hub works fine. Getting super frustrating as I use the voice command feature typically since it’s a kitchen device.

Hello Loghead2510,

Thanks for reaching out to the Google Community Forum. I understand how frustrating it is that Disney Plus isn’t working as you expected on your Google Nest Hub. No worries; I’m happy to help.

It's good to hear from you that you've already taken action on the matter. To expedite the assistance, help me out by answering these questions.

  • When did the trouble first occur?
  • Do you encounter the same behavior when streaming another service?

Any additional details you can provide will be helpful.

Best regards,

Daniel

It first started happening about a week or two ago. I do not have issues with any other streaming service, but I don’t use many others besides Hulu.

Hey folks,

Thanks for keeping me updated.

Since it seems to be specific trouble for Disney Plus, I suggest reaching out to their support team for more help. They should be able to provide you with some troubleshooting steps to get things working again.

Regards,

Daniel.
