How do I use the translator?

SunnyRio

I can't work out how to use the interpreter.  I wanted to translate some German into English, by speaking it.  But this is what happens on my Google Home speaker 1st gen:

Me: "Hey Google, translate from German to English"

Google: "Sure, I'll be your interpreter.  When you hear this sound I'm listening.  Let's get started."

Me: "Rauchen verboten" (means smoking forbidden)

Google: "What language do you want translated?"

Me: "German" (I've already told it this....)

Google: "Ok, I've found several results: The first is "Kings Donner and deserts at 19 Westwood Square, East Kilbride, Glasgow""  (What the hell?!?)

Now try my Android 12 phone:

Me: "Hey google, be my interpreter"

Google: "Got it, what language do you want translated?

Me: "French" (this comes up on the screen as "French", so it's heard me and understood)

Google: "Sorry, what language?"

Me: "French"

Google: "Since I'm having trouble understanding, I'll stop for now"  (but it did understand!!)

Is there some secret sequence of phrases I have to use to make it do this?

Hi SunnyRio,

Thanks for visiting the Google Nest Community.

Kindly check out the article on how to Translate conversations with interpreter mode. Let me know if the listed commands work.

Alex

It seems to have a problem understanding me when I say the word "French".  No human has ever misunderstood me saying "French".  Can I train it to understand my voice better?  I remember 25 years ago training speech recognition.

You really must learn to be more patient.  People have other things to do in their lives, and a response may not occur for a week.  Do not expect a response within 24 hours, it's extremely rude.

And actually, the first time I clicked the link a couple of days ago, it didn't display the page, so I left it.  Nothing happened, I think the unnecessary make a shorter link nonsense server was down.  Best just to paste the full link.

I've now filled it in, but I don't appreciate it insisting on a phone number.  Don't bother phoning me.

I also don't see why I had to fill in a form to tell you exactly what I've already told you in this thread.
