How to play music with non-English names

sudaltsov

Nest Audio is doing great job playing the music that has English names (song name, artist name). Is there any way to play the music with non-English names? For example, Russian bands, Russian songs.

I tried to add Russian to Google Assistant but it is not supported on Google Nest Audio (at least Google Home says so).

Absent information about how you stream music, one thing you might do is create a playlist and then tie that playlist to a routine. Playlists and such may be limited based on service, country availability, and may require a subscription. Some services, such as Apple Music may not allow playlists or access to your music library.

Sorry for not mentioning. I am using YouTube music. The whole chain is controlled by Google. Any chance to use Russian names as is?

If it hasn't worked with anything you've tried using spoken language, it's not going to work and there's no way to force it or make it work just because that's what you want it to do. Your device is set to English, so it's not going to automatically switch to and understand Russian (is there a English translation for these songs and bands?). Also, if you don't have a paid subscription you won't be able to ask for specific artists or songs anyway.

What country are you in?

I actually thought that maybe I missed some setting in Google Home app...

Yes my Youtube music is Premium. I am in Ireland.

I'd try the routine, name your playlist Russian Music or something, then have the routine call the playlist. Are you familiar with routines? You seem pretty proficient, so I won't bore you with a help article to read, but if you need it I can grab it and post it here, just let me know.

Anyway, that is probably as close as you'll get; the device is not going to interpret a foreign language instruction for content on the fly if the language isn't set for that (and Russian isn't supported for Nest which you know already). It probably doesn't do Gaelic very well either, lol.

AI is good, but it does have its limitations as far as some home automation is concerned.

Not exactly a solution, more like a workaround... But I understand there is no better way. I hope one day (once the current crisis is over) Next will support Russian properly.

Well, it's not exactly a workaround, it is the solution because Google Assistant on Nest speakers don't support the Russian language.  So it would stand to reason, asking for a song that is accessed using Russian would fall in the category of not being supported.

The limitation really has nothing to do with the current crisis, it's always been that way -- the Polish language isn't supported either. So the solution is the routine since help documentation clearly details what is/isn't possible.

The best I can suggest is to submit feedback. If I had to guess though, it probably won't happen since it's been a request for a few years. It's probably just not doable or difficult, on the translation front, to make it a useful/helpful user experience.

How does Assistant deal with other non-English languages? Could one ask for some Chinese track? The French or Italian on? Sorry I speak neither of those.

If the language is supported it handles the language as expected. Mandarin is supported but other Chinese dialects are not from what I can tell. If you asked in another Chinese dialect other than Mandarin, you'd probably be met with silence or I don't understand/can't do that yet or whatever the fallback error message of the day is for unsupported languages.

The earlier suggestion isn't a workaround, since your use of the word, from my reading, infers something is broken or is an omission. That's not the case since Nest presently and deliberately, it seems, does not yet support Russian for whatever reason. The device and assistant support written commands and routines that may accomplish your objective even though your preference is spoken language.

Earlier you suggested to submit feedback. How would I do it, to let Google know about my displeasure? Thanks

You can leave feedback either by clicking your profile image in the upper right in the Home app and choosing help/feedback or you can simply say "Hey G, feedback."

You won't get a response but know that the engineering team reads the feedback that is sent in.

@Jake sure I did see it.

It is not a real solution to the problem, rather than direction of where the solution may be... Even though it is hard to believe there will be one implemented by Google.
