Is Google Home/Gemini "Home" that dumb?!

So this is the thing: i use many MEROSS smart plugs in my home and I use Google Nest Home Display and Speakers to control them.

Thing is, if I say "Hey google, turn off alpha beta and gamma" it replies "i'm sorry i can't do this with devices plugged as switches" but if I say "Hey google, turn off alpha and beta" it works fine!

What's the deal!? I've tried many combinations of device (plug) names and it only works with pairs, never 3 or more devices on the same sentence. Is this normal!?

Hi iAreku,

Thanks for posting. I'm sorry to hear about the situation that you are experiencing with your MEROSS smart plugs while you are controlling them with your Google Home speaker. I understand how frustrating it can be when things do not work as expected. But don't worry; I can help. In this case, the recommendation can be to unlink and relink the devices.
To unlink the devices, follow these steps:

  • Open the Home app.
  • Tap account.
  • Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display.
  • Tap Settings > Google Assistant > Home Control.
  • Under Linked services, tap the home automation partner > Unlink account > Unlink.

After that, try to link the devices:

  • Open the Home app.
  • Tap account.
  • Verify the Google Account on screen is the one linked to the speaker or display.
  • Tap Settings > Google Assistant > Home Control.
  • Tap the search box, type the name of the home automation partner, then link the account.

Please keep me posted and let me know how that goes. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Jenny

It makes no difference. I would say Meross has nothing to do with this but the way Home assistant uses the voice input to act accordingly.

If you tell it to turn off THREE or more appliances, it tells you it can't control "smart plugs" but if you only tell it to turn off one or two (using the word AND in between), then it works completely fine, no matter which pair you choose to turn off.

So it's definetly something with the (un)logic of the HA. Either that, or a security/protection feature of sorts.

Thanks for posting. I understand that after all the steps that you tried, the Google Home speaker device is still not controlling the smart plugs as expected. In this case, we appreciate your feedback. We're constantly working on improvements, and your input helps us shape future features.
Please let me know if you have more questions.
