Nest mini does not work with YT music

Sandeep3
Community Member

Facing the issue since today. The device was working fine till yesterday night however Casting audio through YTMusic app no longer works. Nest tells me "Sorry something went wrong" when I try to play music with voice command on YTMusic. I saw several community posts from 2022 matching this behaviour.

Tried,

Reboot

Factory Rest

Creating/Deleting speaker groups

Different Wifi

Nothing works 😞

Hi everyone,

Thank you for posting in the community! I understand that you’re experiencing issues casting audio to your Google smart speakers and displays via the YouTube Music app. Additionally, I see you're getting a “Something went wrong” message when trying to play music with voice commands. I know how frustrating this situation can be, and I truly appreciate the troubleshooting steps you've already taken. I am here to help provide more information on this.

We’re aware of this issue and are currently working on a fix. To help us gather more information, we’d appreciate it if you could share your feedback regarding this situation. Please follow the steps below:

Turn on device usage data and crash reports:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap Favorites or Devices.
  • Tap and hold your device's tile > tap Settings or the More menu > tap Settings and then Recognition & sharing.
  • Turn on Send (device model) device usage and crash reports to Google. (Example: Send Google Home device usage and crash reports to Google.)
    • Note: For iOS devices, turn on Send device usage and crash reports.

Send feedback using voice commands (directly on the affected device):

  • Directly on the device, say: “Hey Google, send feedback.”
  • Then say the keyword "GHT3 can't play/cast YT Music on (device name)."

Send feedback from the Google Home app:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • At the top-right, tap the account icon.
  • Tap Feedback and then tap the device to submit feedback for.
  • To display available emails, in the From section, tap the arrow on the right. Select the email address.
  • In the feedback summary, write a brief description of the issue. "GHT3 can't play/cast YT Music on (device name)."
  • Be sure to check the box for Screenshot and System logs.
  • To submit feedback, at the top-right, tap Send.

@rogerwick and @Norge, thank you for your recommendations and the information provided.

Hope this information helps!

Best regards,

Same issue, started sometime over the last 12 hrs. Other audio apps cast fine, just YT music has the issue.

Same issue, I replied already in another thread https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Google-home-mini-stopped-playing-YouTub... and contacted Google support.

It's happening on all of my devices too. Google Home Mini. Nest Display (1st and 2nd gen). Either by asking through voice command or trying to cast directly from the app. All other music or radio apps work fine. Usual restarting devices, router, WiFi mesh, phones have no effect and neither does factory resetting the device. Seems like a YouTube Music issue.

After playing music from YouTube without a hitch for years, my Mini suddenly stopped being able to, and I steady, responds with, "Sorry something went wrong. When you're ready, give it another try." I've rebooted, hard reset, relinked to Google Home, but to no avail. I saw a similar post (although not identical) and went through those steps as well.  And yes, my phone (Pixel) and Mini are both connected to the same wi-fi (even restarted my router to make sure that wasn't the issue). Anyone else experiencing this or have suggestions?

Same thing happening to me since the weekend on my old Google Home Mini not playing anything from YouTube Music anymore. I found this old thread describing the same situation some time ago last year which seems to have been fixed quietly by Google: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/Trouble-with-Nest-Mini-and-YouTube-Musi.... So let's hope it's a bug and they just fix it quickly 🙂

Hello Google Nest Community,

That’s really frustrating, especially when it’s been working fine for years. It honestly sounds like it could be a backend issue with YouTube Music or Google Home rather than something on your end, since you’ve already tried all the usual fixes like reset, relinking, and router restart. A few people have reported similar glitches lately where the Mini just throws that generic error. You might want to check if switching the default music service off and back to YouTube Music helps, or try casting directly from your phone as a temporary workaround. If it still doesn’t work, using an alternative streaming option like for music or live content could at least keep things running while Google sorts this out.

Today I have got another answer from the Google Home support team. After they had asked me many questions a nice new person named Joy now says I will have to contact the YouTube Music support as they think it is a problem of that product. Obviously some internal communication within different Google teams is not possible 😛

Same issue here! Started a few days ago, I suddenly started having this issue with all of my google nests from 2 different households.
All use my google account, I have yt premium and now whenever I ask it to play music on YouTube music, it responds like it’s going to, then like 15 seconds later it says “sorry, something went wrong, when you’re ready try again.” Even when I try casting from my phone, YouTube music skips through about 15 tracks without playing before saying the message again. Tried switching to a newly made Spotify account and that plays without issue so my guess is that it’s a server issue? I’ve done all the resetting steps etc and nothing has worked so far.

I have the same issue.

Happens on all my nest speakers. Weird thing is my wifes pixel phone works without issue. We are on the same version YTM. Pocket cast works for me without issue. But YTM same as you. Contacted support. Awaiting response.

I spent over an hour with your support staff today trying to solve this problem. We tried everything and eventually he just gave up. Send "feedback through the youtube music app and then tech team will look into it"  Excuse me? What the hell have I been doing with you for the last hour then ?? Yeah I'm not doing any of your steps. You guys figure it out.

If app don't work by next week I'm just gonna move on. Tired of this nonsense.

Hi @MachineSpirit

Thank you for letting me know. I truly understand your frustration, especially after the time you've already spent on this today. I appreciate you trying the workaround and sending feedback through the YouTube Music app; however, the feedback we’re looking for now is the kind sent directly from your Google speakers. This gives our team better details of what’s happening, which is the best way for us to work on a fix. I really appreciate you taking this extra step to help us get this right.

Best regards,

Stephanie

Thank you! I have done all 3, fingies crossed a solution can be found! 🤞🏻

Impossible de caster, ou de demander de la musique via youtube music, ce message s'affiche à chaque fois "An error occurred. Please try again later", et ce depuis une semaine.

Is anyone else having problems with YouTube Music on Google Nest speakers/devices over the last week?

My setup has worked fine for several years, but for about a week YouTube Music has completely stopped working across all Nest speakers.

Important details:

* Spotify works perfectly (but i don't have a subscription)
* Radio works perfectly
* Google Assistant works
* Devices are online and visible in Google Home
* The issue is ONLY with YouTube / YouTube Music

Symptoms:

* Voice commands acknowledge the request but nothing plays OR I get a voice message saying there has been an error.
* Casting from the YouTube Music app fails

Things I have already tried:

* Factory reset of speakers
* Removing/re-adding devices
* Rebooting router
* Unlinking/relinking YouTube Music
* Checking default music provider
* Confirming devices are on the same Wi-Fi
* Casting Spotify successfully (works fine)

None of this has fixed the problem.

There seem to be a lot of similar reports online recently, so I’m wondering whether this is a Google-side issue rather than a local setup problem.

Would appreciate confirmation from Google or other users experiencing the same thing.

Same has happened to me. Same troubleshooting steps, same results.
