Link account not working

Janetstern

My nest hub stopped working today. It shows "Link account - Open the Google Home app and link your account".

I opened my Google Home app on my Android phone, and don't see any option to link my account. I tried adding the device, but it doesn't appear. I tried unplugging the nest hub, but when I plugged it back in several seconds later, it just returned to the same Link account screen.

I go to Devices, and I go to the bedroom group and I see 2 devices: My Bedroom display, and My Room display. On my nest hub screen, in the lower right corner, it says "My Bedroom display". However, that device shows as being offline. The other device is showing as online.

If I click on the offline device and then click Settings, I can see the Device Info. If I click the vertical dots button on the Device Info page, and click Reboot, it reboots the nest hub device. After the nest hub display restarts, it returns to the Link account page.

For the device that is showing as online, there is no option to Reboot on the Device Info page. But, while typing in this feedback, apparently the Google Home app decides something was hinky because when I tried to go back to the list of devices, it stayed on the Device Info page, but shows it is refreshing or reloading the info. However, after a couple of minutes, nothing happened.

I went back to devices and decided to remove the device with the wrong name, the My Room device. After it was removed, I used the Google Home app on my phone to reboot the device My Bedroom display. After it restarted, it went right back to the Link account page. I don't understand how I can reboot the device from the Google Home app if the device isn't linked to my account

The only change today is that I had to reset the password for my Google account. The Link account message showed up after that.

I'll try resting the device to factory settings.

Hi Janetstern,

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’re experiencing with your Google Nest Hub device. Were you able to do a factory reset? How was it?

Regards,
Alex

Yes, I was able to do a factory reset, and after that I was able to add the Nest Hub device to my Google Home app and use it again. Thanks!

On my device it says open app link account. I did that on my phone but keeps saying looking for device.

Hello priort73,

Thanks for visiting the Google Nest Community. On the Google Home app, go to the Devices tab and scroll down to Other Cast or Local Devices. Do you see your Google Nest display there? If yes, tap on it and choose the button to “Add to a room”. Reboot your Google Nest display once done. If the issue persists, do a factory reset.

Best,
Alex
