Multiple speakers responding - THIS IS DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!!!!!!

Frankiel2

1 . All Google Home & Nest speakers within earshot of a command are responding.

2. Sometimes, a speaker farther away will act on the command while the closer does not.  This leads to a timer, music, etc. being played in a room that you are not currently in.

NOT TO BE OVER DRAMTIC, BUT I OFTEN CONTEMPLATE THROWING THEM ALL IN THE TRASH AND MOVING OVER TO ALEXA.  I ALSO OWN ALEXAS AND THEY DO NOT HAVE THIS PROBLEM AND RESPOND TO COMMANDS MUCH MUCH FASTER AND WITH MUCH MUCH BETTER RELIABILITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Frankiel2,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

I’m sorry for the trouble this has caused you, let me help you out. A few things: which Nest speakers are we working with? When did your issue begin? Were there any recent changes made before the issue started? What steps did you take so far?

You can do a sequential reboot. First, unplug your Nest speakers/ displays for 30 seconds, then do the same thing to your Wi-Fi router to refresh both devices and your Wi-Fi signal. If that did not work try adjusting the Hey Google sensitivity setting. Check the steps below on how to get there.

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home.
  2. At the bottom, tap Home Home.
  3. Touch and hold your speaker or Smart Display.
  4. At the top right, tap Device settings Settings and then Audio and then “Hey Google” sensitivity.
  5. Choose how sensitive you want Google Assistant to be when it responds to you.
    • To change this setting on another device, tap Adjust more devices.

Check this link for more information.

Hope this helps.

Thanks,

Juni

What would you like to hear from me, that I’m still frustrated?? I was hoping someone had a viable solution

Ok I just put them all back to default. A while back, when there were “wake up” problems, I increased the sensitivity on some.  I’d be pleasantly surprised if this resolves this. But time will tell. Thanks for the reply

Hi Frankiel2,

Checking in to see how we are doing after changing some device sensitivity? How was it? If you find it wanting, then try the steps below to change each device’s name.

  1.  Make sure your mobile device or tablet is linked to the same account as your speaker or display.
  2. Open the Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. At the top right corner, tap Settings > Device information > Device name.
  5. Enter a new name > tap Save.

Cheers,

Dan
