My Nest Mini answered a call but no one prompted it, and it's not linked.

I just have a weird experience with my nest mini which had never happened before. I was in the kitchen and then suddenly my nest mini in the living room had a voice come out of the speaker. I spoke with the person quickly saying it's a wrong number and he hung up. Afterwards I did the following:

  • checked the home app to try and find the call activity and there were no such log.
  • checked and confirmed I didn't link Google Meet to the nest mini
  • check my Google Meet app and there were no log.
  • checked my spouse's devices and confirmed her Google Meet account was not linked to Google Home.
  • checked her Google Meet app and there was no log either.

This is too random and I am confused why this happened, and I want to figure out why this happened.

Hi Kerplunkator,

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Nest Mini answered a call by itself. I'm happy to help you!

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • Does the Speaker or display regularly randomly trigger a false trigger?
  • What kind of environment does the device fail in? For example: noisy, normal, quiet.
  • Where is the device placed? For example: By itself, up against the wall, next to a window, next to a TV or audio speaker.
  • Is there anything covering, touching, or intermittently brushing against the device?

 Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Rusell.

Hi Rusell,

  • Does the Speaker or display regularly randomly trigger a false trigger?
    • There have been several occasions almost once a month.
  • What kind of environment does the device fail in? For example: noisy, normal, quiet.
    • It was quiet, no one was in the room.
  • Where is the device placed? For example: By itself, up against the wall, next to a window, next to a TV or audio speaker.
    • It's next to a TV. The TV was on, connected to a chromecast, but nothing was being played.
  • Is there anything covering, touching, or intermittently brushing against the device?
    • none

To elaborate more, no one was in the living room. No one was speaking. No music or video was being played. Suddenly a voice came on.

Hi Kerplunkator,

Thank you for your response. I appreciate the information provided therefore i'd like to share with you some troubleshooting below:

  • check My Activity to check what the speaker or display heard at the time the issue occurred.
    • Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
    • At the upper-right, tap the account icon.
    • Tap Manage your Google Account and then Data and privacy.
    • Tap Manage your Google Account and then Data and privacy.
    • Identify the most recent command that generated a failed response.
    • Select Details below their Assistant Query (this will expand out the details).
    • Tap the Play button on the query card (have them play a few) to confirm from My Activity what the speaker or display heard at the time the issue occurred.
  • Restart your Nest Mini
  • If restarting the Nest Mini doesn't work, please perform a factory reset

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Rusell.
