My android devices with home app wish not display a cast audio button for my Google Nest Hub 2nd Gen

I have reset my 2 nest hubs, reset my router and applied any fixes I could find on the internet. I have 2 minis and the cast audio button is working on both of them without problems. I can cast my screen just fine. What settings should I look at to correct this problem?

Everything is on the same network.

Hi PSmith41,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I’m so sorry to hear that the cast button audio is not working on your two Nest Hubs (2nd gen). No worries; I'm here to help! Just to get started, I have a couple of questions that will help me understand this situation better. Can you please help me answer the next questions?

  • Does this issue occur with a specific app or all apps?
  • Can the device play music using the command "Hey Google, play music" without any difficulties?

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.

I can ask all 4 of my devices to play music and it does fine. I just do not have the cast audio button. I may be a little confused - should all apps have capability to cast or is it limited to certain aps?

Hi there!

I understand how frustrating it can be when technology doesn't work as expected. It sounds like you're having trouble moving media between your Google Nest devices. Let's see if we can figure this out together.

Let's try this:

From your Nest display:

  • Find the media card: Look for the card showing the current media (like a song or video).
  • Open the media player: Tap the card to open the player.
  • Choose a device: At the bottom left, tap "Devices" to see a list of available devices. Select the one you want to move the media to.

From the Google Home app:

  • Make sure you're connected: Check if your mobile device is on the same Wi-Fi network as your Nest devices and signed in to the same Google account.
  • Open the app: Open the Google Home app.
  • Go to Favorites: Tap "Favorites" to see your recently played media.
  • Control playback: Use the mini-player to change the cast device or group, adjust volume, or control playback.

Even if everything is on the same network, there might be interference or connectivity problems affecting the cast feature. Try restarting your router or using a different Wi-Fi network to see if that helps.

To answer your questions.

While most apps should support audio casting, some might have specific requirements or limitations. Ensure that the app you're using is compatible with audio casting to the Nest Hub.

Although less likely, there might be a compatibility issue between your Android device and the Nest Hub. Try casting audio from a different Android device to see if the problem persists.

If you're still having trouble, please let me know. We can try to troubleshoot further.

Regards,

Brandon.
