Need to control settings from a different network

lesliethiel

I am receiving an error when I try to change settings on my Hub.  I have two homes which are set up separately on the Google home app. When I try to change the display from photos to clock, I receive the following error message "some features are only available when your mobile device and display are connected to the same WIFI network".  I have a Pixel 7, Android 13.  My partner who has the same setup, except she has a iPhone XR, hers works just fine. Fine. She can change features on the display and not received the message. Any suggestions?

Hi lesliethiel,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community.

I know how it feels when something isn’t working as it should, let’s get this resolved. A few things: are you in the same location as the Nest Hub that you are trying to change the display to? Are you using a dual band router? If so, are you connected with the same band where you Nest Hub is connected to?

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Juni

HI

I am not in the same location, I am currently in CA, the Google hub is in Portland.  I am not hooked up to the router in the same location as the HUB.  It is a new home, I have the supplied router from XFinity, ARRIS Group, TG1682G.  I believe it is a dual band router.  Any suggestions, as I stated my partner with an iPhone it is working fine.  Thanks for any help you can provide.

Hi lesliethiel,

Thanks for the additional info you've shared. Just to verify, both your account and your partner's account are completely added and linked to your Google Nest Hub, is that right? If so, aside from your Pixel phone and iPhone XR, any chance do you can try it to a different phone so we can check if it isolated on Pixel devices only?

Keep us posted.

Best,

Princess

Unfortunately, I do not have access to a different phone.  Yes we are both added and linked to the account.  My account is the primary on all NEST setups, her account is just invited.

Hey there,

Thanks for letting us know. To make sure, check if you're signed in on the same Google Account on your Google Home app and you're on the correct home structure.

Regards,

Alex

Hello lesliethiel,

We know you have other things to do, but we'd like to check how it's going with your Nest Hub? Let us know by updating this thread and the Community will be happy to lend a hand.

We are both on the same home account for the app (we only have one)  and we are running from the same network when we try the controls.  I am not sure what to do next, other than try to control the current home we are in from the other home when we are there.  We won't be at the Oregon home for about 2 weeks.

Any other suggestions?

Hey there,

Can you try logging in your account to your wife's phone to see if you can also control your Nest Hub? Reinstalling your Google Home app might help too.

Keep us posted.

Best,
Alex

I will uninstall and reinstall the Home App on the 16th and we will be at the second home on the 18th.  If I have issues I will report again.

Hi

Yes, I uninstalled and reinstalled the Home app.  I all rebooted my phone between the two steps.  Same problem exists.

I also just installed the Home app on my Google Pixelbook - chromeOS.  Same issue occurs on it.

Hey there,

I wanted to confirm if you are now in the house/location where your devices are? Because changes can be done on your Nest Hub only if your phone is on the same account and WiFi network.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Dan

We are headed there today.  The interesting observation is my partner in her iPhone is able to control the hub when she is at a different location and network.  I have been able to do the same before I got a Pixel 7

Hello again,

How are we doing? Have you both safely arrived at your destination? By the way, I wanted to ask, what are the devices the you're trying to control or change or even access using your phone? And on what application?

Thanks,

Dan

Hi

I am able to control the Hub here and I can control the Hub in the other house. Maybe I needed to establish a local connection??

Hi lesliethiel,

Good to know! A local connection is really needed especially when you want to make updates or changes. Both your phone and your Nest Hub must be connected locally. And it looks like we can consider this one complete, so I will lock the thread in 24 hours unless I can help out with anything else.

Best regards,

Dan
