Nest Audio Bluetooth keeps disconnecting

j0ashm
Community Member

Just purchased a Google Nest Audio this week.

To my dismay, the Bluetooth on it just refuses to work.

I try connecting it to my phone via Bluetooth, the connection works for about 3 minutes and then suddenly drops off.
I can’t reconnect to Bluetooth.

I end up having to completely reboot the nest device, forget the device on Bluetooth and then do the entire pairing process again.

extremely inconvenient. Are there any solutions to this?

That's a useless comment.

Seems like these issues have been going on since 2018. 4 years and you haven’t done anything. So YES WE STILL ARE EXPERIENCING ISSUES!

Here’s the description of my issue. My Google nest hub has been working successfully for several months now. In the last few weeks my iPad and iPhone will connect via Bluetooth for about 10 seconds and then disconnect. I have restarted the hub and then it might work for an hour or two and then stops again. I checked my hub and it’s on the latest OS updates. This is making listening to music streaming from my device is very difficult. The Wi-Fi on all of my other devices works without issue. Please help it looks like I’m not alone in this issue.

My problem is that the Bluetooth will just randomly disconnect and then stop functioning altogether. It seems related to perhaps something starting a cast to the speaker - but in my most recent example I didn't attempt to cast anything to the speaker, but it picked up some prior cast and told me I was playing music on it when I hadn't initiated anything.

I was just using Bluetooth mode, switched to a new app to play something then it just disconnected.

And now that's happened I cannot connect anything Bluetooth to the speaker until I unplug it to reboot.

This is kind of frustrating.

I haven't had my particular issue in quite a while... I use the Bluetooth function on the Nest speaker quite a lot, but rarely the cast function.

Glad I could come here to find out this isn't fixed. I didn't have this problem last year. I put them on my deck and watch TV outside under cover. Got em out this spring. Nothing but problems. Random crackle sound in one speaker. Then the other just drops off until I reboot. Paired with cc with Google tv.

I have a google home mini that I connect via bluetooth to my Mac desktop. The connection has been a problem since day one, randomly disconnecting. The speaker and computer are about a foot a apart from each other. I will never buy another Google speaker or physical product until the company both makes products that actually work AND has some level of actual customer service like a real company.

Hello Jake !

thanks for the reply , yes indeed still having the same issue ! Google is also not updating any or the google home nest or google mini to fix these issues, my google home assistant is now becoming useless, it doesn’t respond to my command, always says he didn’t understand my query, i reset all my devices (3google homes) changed wifi to 2.4GHz nothing happened. Also spotify doesn’t play on my grouped speakers it’s totally a mess… Bluetooth auto disconnect from TV.. hope they can roll out a new update.

Hi Jake.. yes of course this is still an issue. This is a multi-year known issue for these devices which Google has done nothing to correct. Either the hardware is bad or the software is bad, or both.

Hi Jake,

Yes, it continues to happen. I can spend a few days where I'm able to connect to either of my two speakers without a problem, and then they fail to connect and I must unplug and replug.

Have you implemented any updates that should have solved this?

Hi Jake,

this is obviously still a problem including with new purchases. I have done absolutely everything to troubleshoot and bluetooth still disconnects multiple times per day on both my nest minis. This was my first and last google product purchase. Guess Apple products are with the money.

Hi Jake, I experience this problem on a daily basis as well... Waiting for a firmware update...

Hi Jake, I experience this issue as well with my Samsung phone and MacBook pro 2019. Had it 2 times today.

Well, Jake, all you have to do is take a look around seems like a lot of help is needed, so where is it?

I am having all the same problems as others. I have a nest hub in my bedroom that is always working ok but my nest hub max in my kitchen (next to the modem) worked ok for the first 6 months and then it started dropping bluetooth connection. I’ve reset to factory settings (a few times), removed the device from everywhere and re installed it, re-paired Bluetooth and it works for about 10 to 15 seconds, then it’s off again! How do I fix this??

I have similar problem just got two nest audio paired the two together and connected to Chromecast With Google TV through Bluetooth after a while the one on the left will continue playing audio from Google TV but one on right drops out

Taz0970

Wow. Same exact thing is happening to my brand new nest. Bluetooth connection drops out and can’t connect my iPhone unless I completely unplug and restart the Nest device. Absolutely insane that they’re selling this. After my google pixel not working 2 months into owning it this will be the last google product I’ll ever purchase

Have you checked the delay time with Home app? Under the speaker setting, go to "Audio" under "Device features". Then see "Group delay correction."

I found the initial setting  was 0 ms. After I changed it to 7 ms, the problem disappeared.  A 2 ms delay was not good enough. I presume the problem was memory overflow because 0 ms delay was not compatible with buffering.

This doesn’t really fix the problem of google home not listening well and sometimes not responding to commands , i also did max sensitivity to 2

marm0lade

Nor should that answer fix that problem. This is about bluetooth disconnecting. If you need to complain about a different issue, please start a new conversation.

Ahh I haven’t! I’ll try this out and see. You’ve given me some hope lol

So i need to put 7ms in all my google home devices ? I have 3 google homes

fclodomiro
Community Member

Moved it to 7ms, but it didn't fix the fact that:

1- Bluetooth will not allow my phone to connect without restarting, or

2- that it will connect but no sound will come out until I restart and reconnect.

but thanks for the try 😊

Right, it only works after restart.  I forgot to mention that. Can be restarted from Home app.

fclodomiro

Changin it to 7ms worked afterwards, but two days later (without unplugging) I'm back to being unable to connect via Bluetooth (iPhone says "Connection unsuccessful. Make sure "SpeakerName" is turned on and in range").
thanks for the idea though

I tried 2 ms and 7 ms quite arbitrarily.

I bought like 3 router + speaker kits and 2 speakers before finding this issue, and because of this issue bluetooth is basically unusable. What do i have to do in order to fix this issue, is driving me crazy all the time all the speakers keep disconnecting even in the middle of a track !! I tried IOS / Android and other devices to the same result.

Been having this issue (i.e. disconnecting randomly and it's annoying disconnecting sound) since not long after I got the Nest Audio. Silly me thought it would be fixed years later (Google of old would have sorted or at least tried to help). Tried factory resets etc but it's a Google software problem, as all my other devices stay connected. I think I might ask for refund as not fit for purpose from the start and Google wont fix it.

BTW the Community Specialists come into a thread and always ask 'Is this still an issue?' but never offer anything or come back. Click on their profiles to see they really don't offer much. Frustrating.

really great looking for a fix to this problem and finding out that this has been a known issue for 4 years now and google hasnt done a d*mn thing about it- realy glad i got this as a gift because if i’d paid for it myself id be much more furious than i already am. the only thing this thread was helpful for was helping me decide to never buy a google product as long as i live 😉

Chromecast works. Don't discount all Google products.  I do enjoy using Chromecast. It turned a dumb tv into a smart tv. I gave my TV set up away, but then only had a computer monitor with an hdmi port.

So plugged in the new Chromecast into the monitor, connected chromecast to a small Bose Bluetooth speaker and voila, ihave a fairly smart TV again.

I was having the same problem. My Nest was sitting right next to my work laptop which had bluetooth enabled. The Nest was not connected to my work laptop but it was regularly disconnecting from my personal laptop to which it was connected. After doing some reading I thought I would try disabling the bluetooth feature on my work laptop to see if it had any effect. The connection has not dropped since. If your Nest is located close to any other device with bluetooth, even if you don't use that device to connect to the Nest, try turning off bluetooth on that device (those devices) and see if it solves your problem.

StacyS

The multiple bluetooth is probably what confused Nest. Lol it was when my bose smart speaker was connected to the nest that I began having the problem of the Nest not reconnecting.

Honestly I just wanted the Nest for the smart speaker feature not for a Bluetooth speaker because I have better quality Bluetooth speakers.

It's sad to see so many complaints on here tbh with no resolution. My nest audio is still in its box and I wish I could use it because it's cute and pretty..  I had specifically orders a certain color to match my bedroom or living room perfectly.

Have just purchased goolge audio nest and am suffering from the bluetooth dropout problem. I don't have consistently strong wifi in the room this is being used in and was therefore hoping that bluetooth would solve that problem. It hasn't. Google should really solve this ASAP, even the cheapest bluetooth speakers don't have this problem.

AhmedA

Hello !
welcome to a long suffering journey with google who will never fix that ! Now after 1 year after purchase i need to shout ok google 4 times so that the nest speaker understands my request
