Nest Hub play YouTube/Netflix

I have a Nest Hub, and I'm unable to get YouTube or Netflix to work on this device.  Every time I ask, the Next Hub reports that YouTube or Netflix cannot be played on the speaker.  How can I get YouTube or Netflix to play independently (without having a cellphone cast YouTube/Netflix to this device)?
