Nest Mini 2nd Gen doesn't play entire YouTube Music playlist

Hello, when starting to play YTM playlist by automation (triggered by pressing it on app or voice started) or voice command, Nest Mini only plays for about an hour and then somehow switches to recommended music. My playlist has about 600 songs, so there's no reason to stop after such a short while. It should last for whole day without any problems.

My promt is: Play {playlist name} on {Speaker name}. Shuffled.

I haven't tried to play the playlist without shuffling. Using family account.

I experience this on my (Mini was set from my account), my wife experiences the same on her Nest mini set from her account.

As it's quite complex household with two separate members, household and private automations incl. away routines, I'd appreciate better solution than starting from scratch... If possible 🙂

Thanks for any help or lead what to try.

Hey Ondra!

Just a few minutes ago, I was posting in a separate thread about getting the mini speaker to STOP playing all night long, and now I'm looking at helping you with the polar opposite. 😂 600 songs in a single playlist?! Wow!

Does the speaker stop following along your list of songs after a certain amount of time (or the same number of tracks)? Have you noticed about how far into your playlist it goes before it starts to deviate?

I have a "work background" playlist on my subscription-paid YouTube Music account with 285 randomly liked songs in absolutely no particular order. Work Background

A routine starts playing it each day at 8am, and shuffles the tracks, but it never makes it all the way to lunchtime. It just stops playing anything saved on my playlist, and picks something I've never heard before (or worse, something I have heard enough times to absolutely dislike!).

I am not sure why this is happening for me either. After about 3 hours of playing familiar songs, I eventually notice the strange music choices and tell my speaker to start the routine "working music" again, so it returns to my desired playlist (which it shuffles after starting to play that very first track on the list.).

I don't know if the speaker just gives up following a playlist after a certain number of connection glitches, or if it just does not like my taste in music.

I would like to believe that the problem is with YouTube trying to play a video or song that is temporarily unavailable, and then losing its track of where it is on the playlist? Since I am using the shuffle tracks feature, the same as you, maybe this is just too complex of a request for YouTube's overburdened servers? I also just assume that "dead silence" is my mini speaker's favorite song and it can't wait to get back to playing that. 🤣

Hi Rick.

I haven't tried play without shuffle yet. However you lead me to thinking if there is an unavailable track in the list... Will be nightmare to check that long playlist, but it could be the cause... Keep fingers crossed for me when weekend comes and I'll have some spare time... 🫢😂

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing details about the issue here. I appreciate @Sarcastic_Rick's response here. I know how challenging it is when you're having issues playing songs from your playlist using your Google Nest Mini. I'd love to dig deeper into this.

To confirm, do you experience the same issues when playing music from the YouTube Music app? To further isolate the issue, let's create a new playlist and add 10-20 songs. Try playing it on shuffle and see if you experience the same issue.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

Hi Muddi. I did some digging on my end.

Still hitting about half hour of playlist playtime and then switches to something else. Mostly some very sleepy music or other extreme something I call vomitting hard metal... Both cases are not the music I want to hear during my day.

My steps.

1/ Found 2 greyed out tracks in my playlist and removed it to be sure they cause the problem. - No change
2/ There is no difference between trigerring the play by voice or automation with custom command.
3/ There is no difference between triggering shuffle play in one command (as written in original post) or first starting the playlist, wait until it starts and in second command tell Nest to shuffle it.

Only working way is the worst use case scenario - starting to play the playlist on my phone (tried iOS and Android - same result) and broadcast it to my (or wife's) speaker. Then it plays even whole day from the plylist. Unfortunately I'm not able to recreate that state of things by automations, which is the intended use case...

This leads me to conclusion: playlist and YoutubeMusic is working ok. Problem is how Nest inteprets the playlist. Like if it had small cache to hold the whole playlist "in mind".

Hi Muddi. Not sure if its worth three time describing it again. When I tried to speak with support earlier about any automation troubles we've ended at "your location doesn't allow you to use automation" what's not really true as I'm using automations without any hacks for about 2 and something years. And the whole support stopped there. However googling leads to conclusion that may location is not the source of the problem.

So less waste of time for me is to run music by hand. Sadly.
